I Went to the Walk-In Clinic

I went to the walk-in clinic today to get checked out since I have been feeling ill lately. I have been feeling lightheaded, dizzy, shaky, and sometimes sweaty/like I'm having a hot flash, since Tuesday night. (I am too young to be going through menopause, so I doubt that's it.) It feels like when I haven't eaten and my blood sugar level drops, which happens sometimes although I'm not diabetic.
The doctor asked me a bunch of questions and suggested that I get plenty of rest and drink water with lemon juice, sugar, and salt added to it to replenish my electrolytes, and to drink orange juice for potassium. Since he isn't my primary doctor, there wasn't much he could do, although he said that if I am still feeling this way in a week to come back and see one of their primary doctors so I can be sent for labs. My blood pressure was slightly on the high side (but not really high) so I wonder if anxiety is the culprit for my symptoms after all. Although nothing new has happened recently that should be causing me more anxiety than usual (but those of us with anxiety disorders know that that's not how anxiety always works.)
Anyway, so I've been trying to rest and take it easy, and have been drinking juice and Powerade, along with plenty of water. I felt a bit better earlier but now I'm feeling weird again. I have noticed that it gets worse a couple hours after I take my medication in the evening. The antidepressant I'm on can cause low blood sugar, but the doctor said that it shouldn't be causing huge dips in my blood sugar level, that it would just be a slight decrease. So, I don't know. Hopefully whatever it is passes, but if it doesn't, I have an appointment to see someone on February 13th, so I will bring it up with them then. And if I feel really crappy I'll go to the ER.
Thanks for all the well wishes and concern on my last post. I will try to get caught up on here over the weekend. I hope all of you are doing well.

Make sure to get plenty of rest and continue drinking plenty of water and electrolytes. Even if something else is wrong, the water and electrolytes are going to help your body. Do you think a change in diet could help? I started eating bananas from breakfast every morning, and with just that alone I can already feel the difference in my well being.
Hope you feel better!

I'm sure a change in diet is in order. I am overweight (though not so much as I used to be) and I worry that I'm on my way to becoming diabetic. It runs in my family. I probably need to change my whole lifestyle.
I did buy bananas and have been trying to remember to eat one each day.
Thank you!

@Srbageldog I have been drinking a lot more smoothies lately, as I love the taste and healthiness of them. The hardest part is finding the time each day to blend everything up!

it's probably the anxiety..you should see how high mine rose before the pills due to stress.i told them straight out it was my family pissing me off.
you might try this generic pedialyte stuff cvs sells too.i get it sometimes,it's not too bad tasting.

My dad can raise my blood pressure like no other. He once caused my heart rate to go up to 260 bpm (I was wearing a halter monitor at the time and it was recorded, lol. I was like yep, that's when Dad pissed me off.)
I'll have to check the pedialyte out. Can't be any worse than lemon water with sugar and salt. Blech.

Hoping that the drinks and such will work. I know you are stressed seeing you have been waiting on the doctor. I know that is stressful in itself. Since you say it happens after the medicine, I really wonder if that isn't it? Whatever it is I sure hope it passes and you feel better soon.

@Srbageldog That could be! I have to take my iron away from my V-X or I get sick. I know I have been feeling off, hoping it is just stress and not enough sleep.

I am wondering if it's due to taking two of my meds so close together. It seems to happen on days when I'm a bit late taking my muscle relaxer. I've been trying to spread them out more, and I have been feeling a bit better. Still not 100 percent better, but not as bad as I was for a few days there.

It may be caused by your high blood pressure. An elevated blood pressure can cause dizziness and lightheadedness.Try also to get your Hba1c check to make sure you don't have diabetes. You can also try to check your Thyroid function test. You may be feeling some symptoms of hyperthyrodism.

That is what the doctor suggested. I have had all these things tested in the last year and all my numbers were normal. Usually my blood pressure is not high at all. So I think anxiety may be causing it to go up, or it could have been slightly elevated due to fatigue (if I don't get enough sleep, my blood pressure will go up.) I will ask to have all these things tested again when I see the doctor on the 13th. Thanks for the suggestions.

@Srbageldog Yes you need to take enough sleep.Maybe sleep deprivation is the cause of your health problems.

Yes, I still haven't gotten a date for surgery and now I'm worried if something else is going on with my health, I will have to wait even longer to have it. I called the specialist today and left a voicemail about finding out my surgery date, but of course they didn't return my call.

@Srbageldog It is a shame they do not even call you back to let you know a date.

Maybe have something to eat when you take your meds, that may stop the low blood sugar.

I always eat a snack when I take them, so I'm not sure why it's happening. Maybe I'm not eating enough.

Just because it the medicine "shouldn't" make your blood sugar dip really low does not mean it "doesn't"
Can you afford an inexpensive glucometer? I get the ReliOn Prime as it is the least expensive on strips. Also make sure you eat something with your meds if it is allowed and you do not have to have it on an empty stomach. I wish more doctors were understanding and listened.

I actually have a glucometer, but the strips I have are expired. I will look into getting more and testing my blood sugar when I feel like this, to see if that's what it actually is. (I didn't even think of the glucometer until now; it was something I got sent free in the mail a while back.) I always eat with my meds because they make me feel sick otherwise, but this "low blood sugar" feeling (if that's what it is) is new.
I wish my primary doctor wasn't on leave, she would listen and try to get to the bottom of it. She won't be back until April, unfortunately.

I don't think it's the flu. I have had some coughing and a runny nose, but it seems like it's allergies causing those symptoms. Thank you, I hope whatever it is resolves itself.
