TV Review Requiem Episode 1
Spoilers
Spooky music, two suicides within ten minutes, a haunted house, strange mirrors, a girl with amnesia and déjà vu, Welsh Hill that might be full of fairie folk.
This didn’t run like an unfolding ghost story but a blast of raw ingredient for one, thrown about one after another. Weird villagers with secrets to hide as in Broadchurch, child missing from years before, creepy mansion, people who stare a lot, violent deaths right out of the Omen, Clanaad-esque music. It felt like tick-box horror, steeped in atmosphere but not much more.
The mother’s suicide barely makes sense. How does she move so fast walking away from the pursuing daughter trying to catch up with her, why does she already have a butcher’s knife in the carrier bag? Why didn’t it just cut through the bag and fall out? How did the heroine not go completely to emotional pieces seeing her mum die that way right in front of her? She would have been in therapy for months after seeing that happen.
I expect this to throw around more horror clichés as it goes; doors losing by themselves, bats and ravens, lots of candles, a local witch,. This wasn’t written, someone just ticked off items on a list.

I actually quite enjoyed it. Most horror these days is cliché anyway. I'm looking forward to next week's episode. I'm interested in where the path is going to take us.

I could go for the Clannad-style music, though.
