Did I tell you about the van?

It has had slipping or reluctant transmission for a while now. Not consistently. In fact, if hubby drove it, it was an angel. Friday the devil got into it. It did not want to keep going. I was halfway to school. I limped in to work. It did not want to shift when it should. I called hubby and told him I was not driving it home. He gets off work earlier than I do, so he came and traded cars with me. The van went to go see Sid, the mechanic. I doubt the transmission had ever had fresh fluid or a clean filter in its entire life. It has some other small problems. As far as I can tell we will have it back tomorrow, in running condition, for less than $200. Much better than having to replace a transmission. I have done that in the past. Hubby had to go get some parts this afternoon.

One of our cars only ever played up with me. It was as good as gold when Vince drove it - every time!

After some serious problems I have had with other vehicles in the last two years I am very paranoid, but it IS a problem that needed repaired. We plan to use it for a trip in March.

Replacing parts is one thing, while replacing a transmission is costly!

@GardenGerty We had a used transmission put into our car. It cost us $600!

@kobesbuddy I have never gotten by that cheaply when replacing a transmission. It is a big ouch though, at $600.

That is a big savings compared to a transmission replacement.

I have had to do that on other vehicles. I finally learned, we need to get good maintenance.

@GardenGerty Nothing like a good maintenance to keep a car, van, etc. going!

Well, thank goodness that you could get it fixed for so little. Bad van to make you go through that. Hope it learned its lesson

I believe the van will be very grateful for the fresh fuel and filter. Bad of previous owners not to maintain it well.

Yes, it is. I am not sure how much we will owe Sid, but he only charges $20 per hour rather than the $80 that shops charge. This is his business on the side from his job.
