A new project is started

I sent one JBL C-46 "Minigon" speaker home the other day and now have fresh ugliness to work on. Before I can get to "sanding and oiling bliss," I have to build up several damaged corners and replace some missing veneer. I'll attach a picture one of the corners that's staring me in the face right now. Do you have any new projects that you're just starting?

To my untrained eye, that looks like it could be a lot of work.

It will be, but a little bit at a time.

All kinds of damage depicted there. Most ssems to be from basic wear.

Yeah, there's darkening near the end of one of the large surfaces that suggests water damage. I'll just have to try and sand beneath it.

@TheHorse - all that mopping over the years, maybe.

I only have some sewing to do, a couple of pairs of pants that need to be shortened a bit and a tablecloth that needs a border.

@TheHorse You are doing a great job. I want to prepare some sushi to serve with my coconut shrimps tonight. The cake is ready.

Sounds like reasonable projects. I just sanded down a couple of pieces of glued-in replacement veneer and then cut and glued in a third. I'll take a picture of my primitive way of holding down the glued in veneer.

Yes, I have a dining table waiting for me in the garage, and I need to fit a rail in the wardrobe too - currently it just has hooks.

@TheHorse I was going to scrape off all the old polish with a cabinet scraper, then finish off with wire wool and then polish it (I did some evening classes on furniture restoration a few years ago)

@Fleura Ah, so you can skip sandpaper entirely?

Are you going to sand down the dining table?

What do you use to build up the damaged areas? A wood putty? Auto body filler?

I use mixture of small veneer flakes and Elmer's Walnut Wood Filler.

Ooh, that’s fugly. Looks like it was in a few fights, and lost ‘em all. Then left outside in the rain. Good luck.

Thanks. Yep. This will be a challenge. But that motivates me. I'm diving in a bit right now.

Not now but I have been longing to get creative in drawing and some painting so tomorrow I will set up a special table for me.

@TheHorse some nudging is always needed. Let's say that if by March there are no posts about my creative projects it's time to wonder why.

Sounds good to me. Should I hound you a bit, just to make sure you get set up?

That's looks like it might keep you busy for a while. No new projects although we are getting ready for a shared garage sale early next month.

Sounds like fun! I need to unload some stuff...including speakers. What will your items be? If I could get $5 for every psych text book sent to me by publishers trying to get me to use their stuff...well, may MyLot riches would pale by comparison.

@TheHorse A lot of knick-knacks mostly. Some pictures, linen and a few books. My sister will have a fair bit of kitchenware too - and heaps of books. I can imagine her buying half my knick-knacks but she is welcome to any without paying for them.
