From Flow Work to Glow Worms in a couple of letters.

Always smiling (@allknowing) commented on a recent post that she had been to see a ‘flow work’cave in New Zealand. When I queried this, it turns out it was a typo and should have been ‘glow worm’ cave. However I went ahead and googled ‘flow work’ and discovered it is an actual phrase and used in thermodynamics.
Here is a quote from a thermodynamics eBook: “Work is needed to push the fluid into or out of the boundaries of a control volume if mass flow is involved. This work is called the flow work (flow energy). Flow work is necessary for maintaining a continuous flow through a control volume.”
Now please don’t ask for a further explanation as I’m battling to understand it myself.
Then I decided to google glow worm caves and discovered that the glow worm species, Arachnocampa luminosa, is found exclusively in NZ. The glow is a reaction between chemicals emitted by the glow worm and oxygen. By altering the amount of oxygen reaching the light organ, glow worms can control the brilliance of the glow. The glow attracts mates, protects the worms from predators and is used for burning waste.
Isn’t it amazing where curiosity can lead you sometimes?
The photo is from Jenolan Caves but doesn’t include glow worms.

It's so easy if we don't pay attention to what our fingers are writing, to type something totally different from what we intended. Doing so, you found some interesting information about something I'm sure many of us know nothing about. Glow worms is also very interesting. So is the picture you provided of the cave.

It is easy to go from place to place and on and on in the internet. I did not know about the caves or the flow work.

Mostly I'm pretty good at not getting distracted but I didn't know anything about flow work so thought I'd better say something about glow-worms and give you 'value for reading'. They are glow-worm caves in Queensland so perhaps I'll see them one day.

I have to admit that my typing is quite terrible and I often get misspelled results that lead me in a whole other direction.

@JudyEv Don;t blame yourself. It was all my fault (lol) but I am glad that users here have now come to know both about flow work and glow worms

Flow work for a second there, made me think of flotation.
We visited a glow worm cave in NZ years ago, very beautiful. I had been against the idea of going into that dark cave, but I caved in in the end and was amazed at the pretty glow. I prayed hard though, that those worms stayed stuck to the ceiling of that cave and not dropping down on me by accident. God and those worms did listen to my prayer.

Neat picture. There are many caverns not too far from here..but I have been to most of them and they are not inexpensive to tour. Luray Caverns are pretty massive, but it is more than 20.00 to tour unless you are a resident of that county, then you can get in for free.

Some of the tourist attractions here are getting really expensive too. It's a great shame as it really puts people off.

Sometimes some gibberish is typed and if you search there will be a meaning too. But this one is a new find.
Now let me coin a sentence using this phrase. A smooth flow work in one's writings makes for interesting reading (lol)
Here is the glow worm cave image. It is a boat ride and we were supposed to maintain perfect silence

A Time-lapse of New Zealand’s Glowworm caves as they have never been seen before. Filming this involved sleeping in caves for multiple days in complete darkn...

@JudyEv We were supposed to - no questions asked (lol) But it was pitch dark there and that boat ride was nice. We started from one end of the cave and got out from the other.
You are right about both expressions being different.

i do that a lot, too, because it's so easy now, unlike before i have to get the encyclopedia! even if i barely understand what i read, at least i became familiar with the term or saw the picture of whatever it is.
the word arachno made me think of spiders, as in arachnophobia, but it turns out, arachnids "also includes scorpions, ticks, mites, harvestmen, and solifuges," as per wikipedia.

Both flow work and glow worms are interesting. lol thanks for posting. There was a word game, I forget the title of, but that was the idea. It would start and end with 2 different phrases , but same # of letters in them. And then there so many spaces in between. Idea was you would change 1 letter at a time and end up with the latter phrase

I've done that but just with one word like changing work into game or somesuch and in x number of moves. Now I have to go off and see if I can change work into game as I just plucked the words out of the blue.
Edit: Yep, I did it. Work, wore, sore, some, same, game. Yay for me!
