Organic or not?

One of the subjects we spoke about during lunch today was about several food choices. The topic was interesting as there were 2 young mothers, one with a very allergic toddler and the other with a baby that has been raised in what the parents call a natural way. The toddler has to be breast fed as none of the other milks are tolerated by his body. Every 3 months, the parents add another ingredient to the toddler (and the mother´s) diet. The other boy, a 2 year old is being breast fed as part of a natural way of approaching maternity. The mother confessed at one point that he was becoming a small tyrant wanting his mother to be nearby day and night at his service. He is quite skinny from my point of view as he does not eat any real meal at any regular hour of the day. He has not had any of the normal shots and vaccinations and my best friend (his grandmother) is very much worried about this. After hearing about all this, I found myself thinking the limits of organic and natural living and what part of it becomes dangerous. What do you think about this?

With some people they think it is fashionable to say they are lactose intolerant or they have some kind of allergy. This is complete and utter rubbish but a fad with some people because they are trying to keep up with the Joneses. It can be harmful to the growth and development of the child.

@garymarsh6 Thanks, I get criticized for being on a strict diet and appearing thin! LOL I didn't want to die, to put it in English:)

I think it is the food that mom had when she was pregnant had caused the allergy

A balance is necessary, a full natural living is as wrong as being too obsessed by "organic food". I was allergic to my mother's milk. The only milk I could drink was goat milk.

But I imagine that people learn to eat little by little other food.

@marguicha Of course, kids must be encouraged very young to eat other food.

This worries me, also. A woman at our church went on the macrobiotic diet. She only made rice and beans for her family for dinner, including the children. All of them looked thin and pale skinned. Even her husband didn't look healthy! It's not healthy, depriving the human body of certain foods

I think that a well balanced diet is what we should all eat. Unfortunately, not all of us can do it. I will try to skip part of the too many carbs I eat and eat more veggies (raw, steamed and cooked). But no one can thrive on a rice and bean diet for a long time.

@marguicha Their whole family looked malnourished! My daughter only fed Zachary formula, when he was two years old. I think that is wrong, those babies also need to consume solid foods, as we do.

If that child didn't take the vaccines then I think he/she is more likely to get sick. In my country vaccines are obrigatory.

I honestly think there needs to be a 'middle road' in these things. Going completely one way or another never seems to work out really well.

I've never had much luck buying organic anything. Organic mayo tastes like crap, and ALL organic raw vegetables just seem dirty. And naughty. (I don't know why I had to throw that in.) But yeah, organic vegetables seem to have all kinds of extra dirt and soil on them and I end up spending an extra 10 minutes scrubbing them just to get them really clean. And if there's one thing I really hate, it's washing vegetables. Especially lettuce. Because then you have to dry it and you've got the paper towels everywhere and it's just a job that I hate doing so much I almost cry. As soon as it warms up, I'll be going to Randazzo's 3X a week and buying their lettuce from the salad bar and then I can use it for salads or whatever. NO WASHING REQUIRED.

The worst of their way of giving the child food is that I´m sure that he is undernourished at his age.
