A four days old foal (baby horse) was diagnosed today afternoon with Persistent Urachus, which in simple language is ruptured Urinary bladder!
With the distended abdomen when this foal was subjected to Ultra Sonography, the abdomen was found filled up with fluid.
On tapping the fluid and examining it , it was confirmed that that was urine accumulated in her abdomen.
Having removed the urine from the abdomen by aspiration, I have taken appointment from our regular visiting surgeon would come today at 06.00 am, that is 5 hours away from now.
Now having prepared the foal for the surgery, I will be going to bed after a while after having a light dinner,to get up to attend the surgery!
Luckily the foal is fine with all her clinical signs in place! Will come back to you in the afternoon after the surgery to let you know about her well being!
Please wish me and my foal best of luck so that surgery goes uneventful! Thanks! God bless!

So now you are claiming to be a horse, too? I thought it was just @TheHorse who was a horse as well as a human? AND I though you were a male??? Now I'm really confused!
Confusion aside, I hope the surgery went well for your filly.

How should I feel about you?
Confusion never hurts anyone.
I am still on your discussions and teasing you.

I got it now dear @Hannihar ! Normally in conditions like the pains like in stomach and intestine which we call as colic foals they roll violently on the ground, paw they legs and they sweat a lot.
But in ruptured bladder they don't show such symptoms, but they stop suckling the mare, on careful observation for few hours we can note that the foal is not passing urine and the abdomen gets distended and the respiration pattern gets fast.
Some times the foal develops fever also. Then we need to check the abdomen with Ultra sound scanner for the presence of liquid and also by tapping the abdomen with a needle to get the urine out!
Hope now you must have got your doubt cleared! Thanks!

In ruptured bladder they won't feel any pain, the abdomen gets distended and the baby finds it difficult to breath. During the time of delivery some times the umbilical cord gets over extended and since urinary bladder is attached to it while the baby is in Uterus it gets ruptured. here in this case we had a pucture of about 2cms. The surgery was done as per the schedule and the foal is doing absolutely fine dear @prashu228 !
