Ever Plant This One Before?

I love asparagus. My ex and I used to go out around Easter time and pick it on the irrigation banks around rural areas here. I was reading an article about growing it and I didn't realize there was so much to take under consideration. Were you aware? Have you grown it before? Only picking a certain amount for the first few seasons is just one. Here is a great article on the subject:
Asparagus is the king of spring garden vegetables, grow your own crowns and harvest succulent spears for years to come

Asparagus just grew around places no one picked it? Like was it land people used to occupy then moved away?

The seeds fly easily and that is why the plants are found on ditch banks or near railroad tracks out in the country. And its good asparagus, and fuss free if it grows on its own in the wild.

I don't like asparagus so I have never planted it. Are you going to give it a try?

No, I live in an apartment and have no place to plant it. The mowers were cut it down I am afraid.

@celticeagle I kind of have that problem too. I live in a very small apartment so I have to be careful what I have in there. I grow house plants and do have some vegetable seeds planted. I can put the vegetables outside but they have to be in pots.

I have seen it in the wild but have never grown it myself. It is funny you mention it, though as I just had some for supper that I had purchased fresh at Aldi.

That's what I thought too. Once you get them established they should be some really good eating.

I love the taste of asparagus but there is too much Vitamin K in it and I have to stay away from it.

I haven't planted it before. They are just available in the market and nobody ever has a plan to plant them here. I don't really know why.

I have never made asparagus. My boyfriend makes it now and then and it is yummy. I doubt I would try growing it on my own but that is really neat you are able to find it growing wild like that.

I once planted asparagus. If I had known that I would be in this house for so many years, probably I would do it.

My husband and I grew some. Preparing the bed where you wanted to plant the crown roots (which were very pricey) was a big deal. Then you cannot harvest any for 3 years because they come up so slender, not much bigger then a blade of grass really. And the second year a little wider and then the third year they are good and delicious if you have the correct mixture of soil-that's why it so important to take your time preparing it. And when the weather turns, you can almost watch the asparagus growing, it goes up so quickly, its really neat to watch.

I also love asparagus. It has a wonderful flavor. I've never tried growing it. I'm not much of a gardner.
