Photography jargon - blue hour

From time to time I’ve mentioned to various readers how every hobby/pastime/career has its own jargon. My husband is very interested in photography and I’ve already written about ‘bokeh’ which fascinates many photographers. Another interesting phrase which I’ve come to know is ‘blue hour’.
Wikipedia explains it as ‘a period of twilight in the morning and in the evening…. When the sun is at a significant depth below the horizon and when the residual, indirect sunlight takes on a predominantly blue shade…… During the blue "hour" (typically a period about 20 minutes in length), red light passes straight into space, while blue light is scattered in the atmosphere, so reaches Earth's surface’.
Apparently the blue hour is most prominent when the sun is between 4 and 8 degrees below the horizon.
To illustrate the blue hour, and because I can now make a collage, (smirk, smirk) I’ve put up two of Vince’s photos showing how the light is affected during this period. One photo is of Uluru in Australia’s Northern Territory and the other is at Glen Mervyn Dam near our home in Donnybrook, Western Australia.

I only know bokeh is one of the filters in one of my photo apps.

I will look up and see in my digital folder if I too have spent time during the blue hour. I must have.

@BelleStarr It's great isn't it? I suggested it to Vince too and he was very impressed with how easy it was to use.

There does seem to be a nice 'light' around dusk though, doesn't there?

Gorgeous photographs. I could think of some other words like magnificent, mesmerizing, enchanting. But I settled on gorgeous.

He really enjoys taking photos and trying to get the perfect shot. He can take a long time sometimes though.

I'm glad you like them. Mostly it's my husband who takes the photos - the stunning ones anyway.
