Sorry to be so late. I was hit with some bad news about the passing of a longtime friend earlier this evening. Rest in peace, Jim. I'll miss you. Here's the next song in my look at a select #1 hit through the years...or at least, the first 25 years of my life. I've been doing this so I can prove I do know well-known songs. Here's the next song. 1981 (Pop): Arthur's Theme (Best That You Can Do) - Christopher Cross Well, this is the pop side. What can I say. I love this song. Yeah, "Sailing" may be one of the most overplayed songs of the 80s, but the rest of Christopher Cross's Grammy-winning debut album was really really good. I put it on to mellow out. And this, his third and final #1 song (quickly falling victim to the "best new artist Grammy curse"), comes from one of my favorite movies. If you just took Sir John Gielgud's scenes it would still be one of my favorite movies. He deservedly won the "Best Supporting Actor" Oscar for his role as Arthur's dry, acerbic, fatherly butler. Add Dudley Moore, and it was perfect. And this was one of the best theme songs of any movie I've seen over the past 40 years or so. Arthur's Theme (Best That You Can Do) Written by Christopher Cross, Burt Bacharach, Carole Bayer Sager, and Peter Allen Recorded by Christopher Cross Released as a single, 1980 #1 for three weeks I know it's crazy, but it's true:
A video tribute I made to a great movie "Arthur". It stars Dudley Moore as the drunken millionaire who is being forced to marry a woman he dispises. He decid...

Great movie! And right on about Sir John Gielgud's performance Chris Cross does play some nice Mellow Rock. This song really did fit the theme of the movie, although hard to believe it hit #1. But what do I know, I was dazed and confused and adjusting to the changing genre of music during this time.

Ah, yes memories of one of my favorite movies and poor Dudley Moore making a silly fool of himself. I like Christopher Cross music too.

One of my favorite movies from the 80's. This was really a perfect theme song for it. "Bitterman! I fell out of the car! Isn't that the funniest thing ever!"

"I really wouldn't know, sir. I'm just a servant. On the other hand, go screw yourself." And just enough drama in the film to make it a perfect blend.

@FourWalls - "He's taking the knife out of the cheese! Do you think he wants some cheese?" Hilarious.
