India is famous for the herbs which are used in Ayurvedic medicine.
There is a plant which is known as ‘Madhunashini’ in local language and Gymnema Sylvestre in English , is used for treating diabetes.

When the leaves of this plant are chewed thoroughly, it surprisingly prevents our tongue to taste sweet things, leaving the sensation for other tastes normal.

This effect is reversible and can last about few hours.

I remember to have chewed this leaf at 9.00 am and it blocked my tongue for sweetness till about 8.00 pm.
This blocking of sweet taste is because of the chemicals present in the leaves which block the sucrose receptors on the tongue!

Have you ever seen this plant or heard about such plant? Thanks!

Basically this herb is used to cure diabetes as it is having property of discouraging glucose absorption in the gut and helping in more insulin production. The property mentioned above is a strange quality of this herb which helped the neurological scientists to study about the location of taste buds on the tongue! Thanks @JudyEv !
