Did you have enough to eat

I certainly had enough to eat last night. I had brought with me my produce that needed to be used and we bought a pork roast to cook. We had lots and lots of raw peppers (sweet ones) and cucumbers. I made an apple crisp. One thing my daughter does for her children at lunch is to have extra food if they are hungry. I am surprised at what the extra food is, but it is a good idea. When her children are still hungry after a meal and they have eaten everything that was served, then she allows them to get a bag of frozen veggies from the freezer. They eat it like candy or treats from the bag. No cooking. They pour some peas or carrots or corn on their plate and eat until they are content. I like this. I do not know where she got so smart. They do not get extra fat, salt, or sugar. It is not too much bread, either. Another thing, at their house, is that most Sundays someone from their church picks up Panera Bread surplus. Sometimes there is more than others. At the church there is coffee and tea available and water. People visit and eat bagels, or sweet treats and muffins. After church there are big bags and people select what they think they will use in their home, and take home bagels, loaves, bread bowls and other surplus things, like baguettes that are there. People just take what they need, and it helps them with meals for the rest of the day and they have things to eat at the first of the week. For my daughter it helps the food budget. It is a single income household, with six people in the family. They seem to always have plenty and eat healthily, though. Son in law will pop a big bowl of popcorn for a snack too, as time permits.

Hmm never heard of people eating frozen veggies as a snack.. that's interesting. My mom and I had a 3.5 pound roast beef last night, both got half of it and I ate all mine besides what little fat it had, and half a plate of mashed potatoes.

Hubby and I would do that on occasion, but that is more meat than I am used to, so I would likely put some away for a lunch.

I can understand making the budget stretch..I work the other half doesn't so I make my food budget stretch as far as I can.

@GardenGerty unfortunately I'm in charge of the Easter dinner and my birthday is the next day so this next week's budget might be a little messed up

The frozen veggies are a great idea. So much better than some of the junk food that might be offered

She worries that they eat too much bread, but I think this nicely balances.

I do not know where she got that idea, but I really like it. They do not do many treats from the store, unless their other grandparents buy them. The thirteen year old says she does not know what a Twinkie is. I was trying to describe sponge cake or chiffon cake to her.

That is one of the things that I like about working for Panera, their day end donations to local charities or churches. No waste. I closed tonight at work so I was able to bring home two French baguettes, a few bagels, and a pastry ring. This cuts down my spending in store on bread and treats. It really is a blessing and even with what I brought home, there was still so much for the people who registered for the day end donations

I think they are great, and they do help with daughter's budget as well as work load. I am glad you get to take things home as well.

For a certain period of my life, I don’t have enough to eat which made me looked like a prisoner of war

This is how I was raised too, but back them people did not buy junk food. We got raw fruits and veggies when we wanted more.

We were very poor and did not have those, either. I learned to fill up on bread and gravy. Not the healthiest choices.
