Bad Moon A'Risin'

Social media has a lot going for it in some ways although I often complain about it. This evening’s ‘share’ from the locals was to tell about four break-ins in a housing estate which is only a few hundred metres along the road from our cul-de-sac. The burglaries happened at lunch-time today and the houses were trashed, two dogs beaten and fire-arms stolen from a locked cabinet. The estate is made up of five-acre lots. Our place can’t be seen from the road but I don’t know if that is a good or a bad thing. There is also a back road which comes very close to the house. However it is a very rough track to come in that way. We are going to put a lock and chain on the gate and we’ll take more care about locking up the place. There doesn’t seem to be much else we can do. And apparently two well-dressed young men are going door-to-door supposedly peddling religion but it seems they are more interested in casing out houses. I doubt they’ll bother to come out here though. I’ve never been frightened living out here but I’ll be glad when these latest lowlives are caught. Next Saturday we go away for five nights so the place will be deserted for that time. We’ll tell the neighbours our plans as they will then report any unusual activity. No doubt the world is evolving as it should so I'll just have to put up with it. The photo is of Uluru (Ayres Rock).

I sure do hope they catch those bums really soon and that you and Vince find ways to protect your home while you're away. That photo is beautiful. It's hang worthy. Have you considered enlarging it?

Not this one we haven't. We've enlarged some others but mostly from overseas. This is my favourite. It's Lake Phewa in Nepal.

@JudyEv but some people steal for the sake of their families?

@Mavic123456 It is never right to steal from other families. I'm sure these guys aren't hungry or trying to feed their children.

That's true. It's a great shame people have to steal.

I love the photo, but I don't love the news of burglaries so close to where you live. If I could, Judy, I would come and guard your home and property while you were gone to ensure that nothing bad happens!

@JudyEv I have a night vision scope mounted on one of my rifles, so I can hide on your property and keep an eye on things through the night vision scope! I'm a pretty good shot with my hunting rifle, so I can hit a target from a very far distance. You know, scare the intruders a little bit! haha

@JudyEv I plan to aim my shots in such a way as to scare the living daylights out of anyone who would even think to trespass on your property. Don't worry, I won't actually injure or kill them...just make them think twice about breaking into your home!

@moffittjc That sounds ideal but then, not being an Aussie, you might get yourself locked up if you go around shooting people, even criminals! You might need to aim to miss.

I prefer to think of the world as "devolving" rather than "evolving." It's sad that you even have to worry about such things.

@teamfreak16 That's my thinking. Why trash the place so badly? It's so senseless.

@JudyEv - I guess that they figure that they are already being a-holes as it is, so they might as well take it all the way.

@JudyEv - And there's really no reason to do all of that. If you absolutely have to be a thief, get what you came for and leave. I hate criminals.

Been away from our house for exactly a month now and we won't be home till 2 weeks from now. Just put on 2 guard lights with photo-electric sensors, 2 solar-powered lights and one with a programmable timer switch. Also requested our front neighbor to keep an eye on our house and left a duplicate key with them. I also gave another key to a good friend who'd check the house from time to time.

Our insurance lapses if the house is left empty for too long although I'm not sure how 'too long' is. It sounds you have a good system in place at your house.

@JudyEv Thanks Ms. Judy :) I think that clause in your insurance policies over there regarding non-coverage when a house is left empty for too long is also to lessen the insurance company's risk exposure.

Yes it is Sad how often people find ways to Case houses and then do something like that. Makes you wonder how they were raised to even ever want to think of doing something like that. Here's hoping they are caught soon.

I hope everything will be safe in your abscence. Alot of the houses, maybe half in this development are second houses and aren't occupried that much. Sometimes they get broken into. Overall I feel safe here though.

I always have felt safe but I don't know why they just can't steal without all the trashing and violent behaviour. I think I'm more afraid of being bashed up if they do come to our house than of the actual robbery.

We too have those guys peddling religion and that too at the ghastly hour of two in the afternoon when the neighbourhood enjoys its siesta. Preiti alerts us and so no worry.

@JudyEv I think some people steal or commit crimes out of boredom .. If they chanel their energy into something more creative and productive, life would have meaning for them..

I should imagine that those well dressed young men will be apprehended if they show their faces again. They actually beat the dogs? They definitely need to be locked up.

Yes, one property had two dogs - not pit bulldogs but something similar - and the dogs were beaten. Hopefully they'll get caught shortly.
