Is there another gender besides male or female?

Whenever I take a survey via Swagbucks usually one of the first questions is always "What is your gender?" with the answer choices being Male/Female.
I took some surveys recently where the answer choices for this question were:
() Male () Female () Other.
Now what the heck does "Other" mean? Is there another gender I am not aware of?
I thought we were either male or female and that's it. But apparently not, if "Other" is an option to choose.
Maybe this option is for those that don't identify as male or female. But then what do they identify as?

Can I identify as an animal? Maybe a mule today, a cat tomorrow and possibly a bird the next day?
If someone is not sure, maybe they need to check and see which parts they were born with?

I don't know remember who it was or where I saw it but there was this girl that identified as a feline. I think a cat but maybe I am wrong. How can one identify as a feline or any other animal? That puzzles me.

@lovebuglena How are you going to label the doors? Just curious.

Perhaps that's the case but then they should have that as the option and not "other".

There are people who calls their selves non binary. Confusing as it may sound, they are people who thinks they have no gender. Also Tumblr users have 312 genders.

@lovebuglena I wish I know, Tumblr is one of the weirdest places in the interwebs.

@lovebuglena I am glad you asked that - there was a discussion that led to another discussion on here about that self-same topic:
My discussion about a mother treating her son for bisexuality led to interesting interactions and @pgntwo posted a link that explains why human beings could...

Some surveys are now including "transgendered."

I've never seen that as an option. Either male, female or sometimes other.

That could be it. But then why don't they just write that term instead of writing "other"?
