Yes , I do believe that honey has an indefinite shelf life. It has a properties that keep it from becoming hotbed of microbes and other things that can spoil it.

Yes, I do agree with you. But if honey comes in contact with water or moisture it can start getting fermented itself! Thanks a lot dear friend @Jessabuma! Have a nice time!

The truth is that honey is having lot of sucrose sugars which don't increase your weight when taken as a source of energy! It doesn't have any nutritional benefits as it is having very small amount of iron in it! This can be stored eternally if stored properly and if exposed to moisture this can be fermented within few months! Thanks!

@LadyDuck , Luckily we have lot of honeybee hives on the farm and we get natural honey! but then since today bees are domesticated and there are honey bee farms,I think we can get genuine honey from popular branded companies! India is sixth largest country producing honey in the World, leading one is China! Thanks!

@AKRao24 One thing is sure, in those time it was "pure honey" in our day most of the honey is "fake" it is a bit of honey mixed to corn syrup.

@AKRao24 I thought I read somewhere that there is a problem with bees so not sure about honey being forever. I use in the morning with lemon juice on a teaspoon and we eat honey cake at our Jewish New Year and I tried it with lemonade and use it with hot water.

I am also not sure about it but I have seen honey kept for some years at room temperature turns into a sold mass but it is still tasty and edible as original honey! Since I am staying on a farm we get fresh honey directly from the hive!

I don't think that the everlasting properties of honey are due to anything more than its very high sugar content. It does have antibiotic properties, though, and is supposed to be an excelent treatment for cuts and woumds and also for colds and sore throats. There are several archaeological finds of honey which is still edible after several thousands of years, so, Yes: I do believe that there is no 'use by' date on honey.

@AKRao24 No, it's not a 'business trick'. It's just stupid government laws which say that everything must have a 'use by' or expiry date.

@owlwings , yes that could be that because of which they have such dates on the packing! Thanks for letting us know about it!

Yes, together with the sugar content they elieve that an enzyme which is having antimicrobial activity gives this longivity to the honey! So logically there shouldn't be any expiry date for honey, but in India we get honey with expiry date 2 years after the date of packing. May be that is a business trick by the people selling the honey! Thanks @owlwings ! Have a great time!

Yes, it can be preserve for long years without any harm but it should be original. Now the honey available in market is artificial. In my home (when it was joint family) we had 2-3 pots kept for honey bees and we used to get honey from the same. Now that house is owned my paternal uncle and still the pots are there. Since my aunt is doing Ayurveda treatment for snake bites, insect bites, etc honey is needed for using as a medicine.

Wow! That is a great piece of information dear @Sreekala, Kerala is famous for Ayurveda medication! I am happy to know that your aunt is practicing this medicine and serving the people! God bless! Yes, if stored properly they say that honey is forever and I have seen honey stored in a bottle without any harm done at room temperature when it was stored for 15 years or more! Thanks a lot!

@Sreekala , I am not sure if honey does have any medicinal effects as it is just combination of various kinds of simple sugars with iron in it along with some enzymes which are believed to be having anti bacterial activity! Thanks !

Honey has been around since in the Biblical times. I know it has health benefits, but I am not sure how long a jar will last.

Lots of people have tried to convince me that honey is nectar from the Gods, with almost everything that is good is in it. I have smiled and doing my best to be diplomatic about it. I read a reply from you to other members here and glad that you said so. To me it is just sugar....
