My first full day in Harrogate. My bed and breakfast room was very warm and comfortable and the weather outside had brightened up nicely. The room’s shower cubicle was very small and the water kept getting hotter even after being turned down. The couple running the hotel were delightful and served me a full English breakfast each morning of my stay. After breakfast and my job searching online, I headed out to explore the town and found lots of great pubs, including the Coach And Horses which celebrates Harrogate’s part in the British visit of the Tour De France cycle race. This extends to one of the most extraordinary pub signs I have yet seen, the three dimensional life sized sculpture of a skeleton riding a Penny Farthing bicycle. I picked up a handy book on the pubs of Harrogate on my walkabout too. After drinks in this and a few other bars it was time to meet my convention friends. Arthur Chappell
