My regular daily schedule is being totally disrupted at the moment, thanks to the 2018 Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast of Australia. These first few days of sporting competition have found me watching far more TV than I usually do. Of course it's the swimming that has captured most of my attention. However, the cycling, gymnastics and women's boxing have also absorbed much of my time so far. Of course Australia, being the hosts, are having most of the success. @JudyEv will be feeling proud of this sporting event her country is hosting. But our little country, New Zealand, hasn't been doing too badly either, considering our population is only four and a half million. If you want to know about the Commonwealth Games just do a Google search for Gold Coast Commonwealth Games 2018.

@valmnz I’m so glad the games don’t come to Belfast and clog up my nice quiet cafes.

It's exciting for the visitors, but a total pain for locals. I lived on the Gold Coast for 18 years, and we always dreaded when Indy time came round - closed streets, extra crowds, all kinds of obstacles to getting on with your daily life. But then, I'm not into sports at all. Perhaps those who are don't mind.

I confess I'm past an age were I'd enjoy being part of the crowd. But what a fabulous tourist opportunity for the Gold Coast. The weather has been amazing. I haven't spent much time there, but loved it when I was there. I believe there are many Kiwis living in that part of the world!

@valmnz Hehe ... I was past the age where I would enjoy being part of a crowd 30 years ago.

I'm not only enjoying the sporting competition but also jealously enjoying the amazing Gold Coast weather the athletes are competing in.

@LadyDuck on the contrary Anna, our autumn here in NZ is stunning at the moment. I've been outside in the garden most of the afternoon.

@valmnz I have to think that your weather is not the best right now. Spring is finally here, the trees are blooming, but next week we will have rain every day.

It's quite a serious event on he sporting calendar, just like the Olympic Games but only for competitors from the British Commonwealth.

@valmnz That's interesting. And considering how widespread the British Commonwealth is, that would be quite an interesting game.

Our Scottish friend becomes very parochial whenever there are any 'games' in the offing. They are certainly entertaining to watch.

If I'd been twenty years younger and able to cope with crowds I would have been there!

@valmnz It's not often it's within reach - more or less. How about the young guy who got the chance to swim in the relay and beat his own PB by THREE seconds?
