I've been searching everywhere online for a free to use photo of the Southport Queensland Aquatic Centre swimming pool. Sadly I can't find one, but this photo of Australia's Gold Coast will have to do instead. My husband and I swam competitively for Masters Swimming, swimming competition for those over 25 years old, until about 15 years ago. About 16 years ago, when I was in my fifties, we decided to compete in Australia in the Southport, New South Wales Masters Games, held at the Southport pool on the Gold Coast. It was an amazing experience, competing outdoors in September, a time when the New Zealand Spring wasn't really warm enough for outdoor swimming. We met lots of wonderful Masters swimmers and had an amazing time. This same pool has had a face lift and is currently the venue for the 2018 Commonwealth Games swimming events. Watching the swimming take place in Southport has brought back so many wonderful memories for me.

That's awesome you swam there once in competition. It makes watching it that much more fun.

Of course they've spent a lot of money bringing it up to Games standard

@valmnz I looked it up today, and saw all the different games and countries involved. It looks a lot like the Olympic games, and must be a lot of fun to watch.

We made some good trips for Masters swimming, most within NZ though.

@valmnz It's great when we can make trips together for something we like to do.

@valmnz My misreading of your title led me to believe you were swimming in this year’s games and I reached for the TV remote to see you.
