Mistaken Identity..

Ages ago now I was on holiday with my Mom in Spain somewhere and we were just going to have Dinner then.
A man came right up to me whom I had never seen before and took me by the hands in an affectionate way.
I was surprised as I was not used to this kind of thing or behaviour.
He looks at me smiling and asks me very earnestly "How´s your Daddy?" "Is he alright as I have not been able to see him for the past few weeks".
So I stood there a bit puzzled and a bit lost for words at first.
It dawned on me that he had mistaken me for someone else but the way he was talking away to me it was not obvious to him that I was not that person he thought he was speaking to.
I said "I am so sorry, but I think you have got the wrong person altogether," then he asked me where I lived and all that and then he realized he had mistaken me for that someone else.
He went on to say that I looked just like her that is why he came up to me right away.
I said "sorry but I have never ever been to Scotland even though my surname is Scottish yes but nothing more than that."
He said he was so sorry but he was really taken aback about me not being that said person.
I did wonder if the other person really looked like me and must have obviously spoken with that soft lilting Scottish accent that he was speaking to me in.
He had even hugged me another thing I was not used to either.
I was not in the least bit upset just puzzled wondering if I could have another double someone who looked like me in Scotland?

But he mistook me for his very best friend´s daughter that was what stunned me for a few minutes when I realized he was not pulling my leg.

haha hope you are not annoyed with the hug. Yes, recently some one called from his scooter while riding.. Madam.... I was wondering who is calling me, he stopped his vehicle bit ahead then on seeing my face he puzzled, earlier he saw my back... again he asked me whether I worked in a specific place, I said no... he said sorry, I was so happy to see you as I thought you are a familiar person which I have been not meeting for long time. He asked sorry.. I said it is alright. I have so many incidents in my life that .... It is said... there are seven persons in the world resembled to one.

@Sreekala
Just imagine that then.
It would be great fun to a certain extent.
I have found doubles of other people at first glance but when you speak to them you realize that you have got the wrong person.
It happened to me with two Sisters and one is a bit shorter in height than the other but still look like twins.

Just imagine if we were able to meet up with all our seven doubles or almost doubles?
No I was not annoyed with the hug at all and its something you kind of get used to living in this country I can tell you.
In England it was not the done thing to hug like that you see.
You must have a number of doubles going around the world then if its happened to you so many times.
Sometimes incidents like that can be fun.

I also have approached a few people in my life thinking they were someone else but I kept my hands to myself.

They are part of my ancestry so I feel their sincerity and although its true that we all act different ways this is their way of being most of the time.

Scots are very open hearted people so they do tend to take you by the hands if they know you well.
I have known a few of them and this is how they are.

I know the feeling believe me.
If I mistake someone I say sorry and just leave it at that.

Maybe we all have someone who looks almost exactly like us in this world. A mirror image so to speak. That reminds me of a twilight zone episode which is titled "Mirror Image." While waiting in a bus station, Millicent Barnes has the strange feeling that her doppelganger is trying to take over her life.

@lovinangelsinstead21 Yes, it was a very bizarre story. Typical twilight zone. At the end she sees her and chases her from the bus depot. The double escapes back into her dimension.

Yes I have relatives from up Scotland.

@Peach10
It makes and made me think that there is and its a bit sad that I could never get to find out afterwards.
I had to work so many hours at the job I was in then and then go home and look after a house for others that I was just flat out at the end of the day.

Actually and from what I was told I do have Scottish family in Scotland but no idea who they are or where they live.
So that could tie in somewhere along the line.
I know one of my Uncles had a little girl that looked exactly like me also.

I think that he did as he was so genuine.
He took hold of my hands and spoke to me very softly.

What a strange case of mistaken identity. I can imagine that he was quite embarrassed.

It was so strange to me too and that is why I still remember it.
I mean one of my Uncles had a daughter with someone and I think that is perhaps the only double I have where I was born as we are about the same age too.
So that is a logical thing for me.

I really know there is because they have told me before that I had been up town and did not speak to them and I said but I have not been up town today that is just one.
A Spanish woman was convinced I was a friend of hers daughter also.
So I sort of played along with it at first as I could not get a word in edgeways.

I have met 4 guys, Chinese, Mexican & Indian etc who look very similar to each other. (Can you believe that?) I have bumped into a few people who looked a bit like me. Made me sad that I was not that unique. (BUT your case is interesting, fancy being confused with someone who supposed to know that person well.)

He was dumbfounded and he told me that I was her spitting image and that is why he came straight up to me and took me by the hands.
Yes I can believe that too.
There are two or three Spanish men that look like my Husband and also that you have seen people that look like you.
Amazing world we live in.

Tell you a secret the same thing happens to me too and this Scottish man was the first person of this kind of encounter.
I love doing this post as all kinds of stories can come out of it like yours.
I even lost friends because they said I did not speak to them when I was not even there where they said.
