I was recently reading an article from an internet search and learned just today, that they are recycling old cigarette butts.
Believe it or not!
Just another Funtastic fact for you to take a look at.
Cigarette butts are everywhere - clogging up our streets, littering our beaches - and for decades they've been thought of as 'unrecyclable', because they contain such a tightly packed mix of organic and inorganic products that recycling companies can

Just what we need, more plastic. On the other hand it is much to be preferred over having them littered everywhere.

Well, the plastic is molded and used in a way that cuts back on the manufacturing of additional plastic. I agree that plastic is something that needs to be reduced ASAP. We are running out of placed, even in the ocean for it. I myself would not intentionally place any plastic in the ocean. Maybe build an island out of it instead.

There are many things that just can not be recycled. Unfortunately. If we could manage to recycle polluted air and polluted land and polluted water, that has already been practically ruined by either chemicals or radiation or acidification it would be really great. Maybe we can find a way to de-acidify the oceans and drag out all the junk laying on the sea floor. Maybe we can find a way, one day, to recycle carbon dioxide and nitrous oxide and carbon monoxide. The answers are out there, but it would take an army of geniuses to get the job done.

@lookatdesktop I think technology will prevail to do quite a of this. Necessity is the mother of all invention, and when it becomes absolutely necessary, a solution will be found.

I would have to say that in all the over 7 billions of people now on the planet earth, there have to be a few in the top 1 % who have a high enough IQ to figure more of this stuff out.

Some plastic that already exists is better used than in a landfill. I realize what you are saying and would indeed want to promote the discontinued manufacturing of plastics completely if at all possible so no more plastic gets into the ecosystem. Imagine if we had to dump all of it in our back yards? Most people would just stop buying anything plastic if they were told they had to dump it on their own property.

@lookatdesktop yes i think it would be better if those that rot were the ones collected and plastics are advised to be dumped in our back yard. This way, we will be more conscious in using plastics.
