I am now officially bummed, as I just found out that veteran actor R. Lee Ermey has died at age 72 due to complications from pneumonia. Best known as the Drill Instructor in director Stanley Kubrick's film Full Metal Jacket, Ermey also appeared in movies such as Se7en, Toy Story, and The 2003 remake of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. He also hosted the cable television shows Mail Call and Lock N' Load with R. Lee Ermey. Ermey, who had served as an actual Marine Drill Instructor, was hired by Kubrick as a technical advisor on Full Metal Jacket before being given the roll as no nonsense Gunnery Sergeant Hartman after Kubrick viewed a video that Ermey had put together for the movie. Impressed, Kubrick allowed Ermey to improvise his lines. Ermey appeared in over 60 films. He will be missed. Semper Fi.
This is an old Coors Light Commercial featuring R Lee Ermey. He is the Drill Instructor from Full Metal Jacket and has been in many movies and TV shows. He i...

That's very sad. Pneumonia still claims a few lives from time to time.

@teamfreak16 Years ago people believed dying from pneumonia wasn't a bad way to go compared to some of the other hideous diseases that could afflict a person. And I'm 72 in July.

He was 72, so it might have been harder for him to fight it off. I have no idea how his health was, otherwise.

He was great in Full Metal Jacket! Being a drill sgt. he nailed that role He passed away so young by today's standards. Can anyone say "Pyle, Pyle."

That was Kubrick's genius, letting talent flow. I mostly remember Ermey from the Military History programmes, but I seem to recall he was a cop in one show

I wondered which one he was from "Full Metal Jacket" - I should re-watch it. Scared me as a teen. Pretty intense movie.
