We're going to break the law

We are taking our bus/motorhome to a music festival this weekend and will be camping, along with many others, for three nights. We are not supposed to take our own alcohol onto the site. Even when we are on site, we can only buy and drink alcohol in certain areas. Many people like to have a drink with their friends on the campsite before retiring for the night or whatever.
If you are young and drive a panel van, the security guys are likely to stop you at the ticketing area and perhaps search your vehicle for alcohol. However with oldies like us I think they believe we are law-abiding citizens and we haven’t been stopped yet. We do have our bottles a little bit hidden in case they decide to search our vehicle.
We do buy alcohol in the licensed area but even there our bizarre laws require us to leave behind any alcohol we haven’t consumed. So if you buy a bottle and only drink half of it you are expected to leave it behind. What’s more they keep the bottle-top (most Australian wines now have a screw top rather than a cork) so you can’t easily smuggle out any part bottles.
But we weren’t born yesterday as the saying goes. We take a couple screw tops with us in our backpack. If we haven’t finished a bottle we put the top on, place it in our backpack and chat to the security man as we leave the area. We’ve already made a friend of him on the way in. I like to think I’m law-abiding but I have no trouble breaking the law when it is such a stupid one. Do you rigidly abide by all laws?

I try to obey laws as long as they keep me safe and sound.

@JudyEv I agree with you since some laws treat us like the lawmakers treats us like we are their children.

Hope you do not meet a new security man on your way out.( one who had'' law abiding ''grand parents like you and is wise to such tricks). Some laws beg to be broken.Hope you enjoy your
camping trip.

Thanks for the reminder! I know we can't bring stuff back across the Nullarbor but I didn't know you couldn't bring it back from Tassie. Definitely something to remember as we're going there in June with the caravan so we're bound to have food on board.

The benefit of age is that there will be no security check for you. A blessing in disguise really. Make hay while the sun shines but you said it is raining there (lol)
I break laws if I think they are silly.

We've had some nice trips in our bus. One was a tour through all the wildflower areas. That was fun too.
