School Field Days

School Field Days can be lots of fun. The whole school participates in physical activities, preferable out doors. Our PE teacher tries to come up with new games every year that are fun, not overly competitive, but teach lessons and cooperation. For PE this week she has been previewing some of the games. I was remarkably surprised with one of the games. She bought some old pillow cases and opened them down the sides, so they were long. She left what would have been the end stitched. Right in the middle she cut a hole that was probably six inches across. The idea of this game was that two students would take each end of the pillowcase. There were various large and small balls all over the floor. The goal was to lower the hole over a ball, then slide the pillowcase one direction to pick up the ball. They then walked together to a basket or tub and allowed the ball to roll to the hole and fall through. It was fun. The students had to really focus and concentrate to succeed, and they were not competing against each other but only working together to achieve something. I think I will enjoy field day this year.
