Even 40 years after his death "The King" is as popular as ever! A rare vintage poster for a 1955 Elvis Presley show in North Carolina has sold at auction for $42,000 dollars. That was twice the expected sale price according to Giles Moon of Texas-based Heritage Auctions.
The poster was advertising a show Presley was performing at in Raleigh, NC in 1955. Moon says the buyer and seller prefer to remain anonymous.
All I can say to that sale is... that's a lot of money, and Elvis wasn't pictured or top-billed!
If you could afford it, would you pay that price for an Elvis poster? Do you think the buyer got a bargain? For those old enough, do you have any memories of Elvis you can share?

Amazing. He was way down the bill. Some good names there.

@FayeHazel Yes. I was five months pregnant at the time, and my husband who didn't like Elvis thought I was going to go into labor because I was acting like most teenagers did. I was a huge Elvis fan. Of course I didn't go into labor. But I totally enjoyed the concert. He was amazing, live.

@just4him Oh wow, that's an amazing memory to have. King of rock and roll. I can't imagine his showmanship in person

My mom listend to Elvis' songs so I know some of them. And I've seen him in his movies too but never really understood what that was about. I was way too young. But I wouldn't buy his posters as I'm not an Elvis fan.

Elvis was one of the early Rock n Roll pioneers which helped his popularity. He was unique in musical style and personality, something very shocking to the straight-laced 1950's. That combination made him so special...

@dgobucks226 I agree. They could be a bidding war.

Wow. Even if I were rich I don't think I would spend that kind of $ on that poster. Unless I were starting a Rock and Roll museum ....

I don't think the fellows on the history channel TV show "Pickers" would offer that amount?

If I had that money I know a lot of better ways to spend it. You know I have an Elvis wall hanging must see how much I can get for that. You got me interested in the money aspect of things.

Collectors seem to like to possess what others do not? And that Elvis on the wall just might find a buyer. After all, Elvis is the King
