A nice red wine vs an Ice Cream sundae. A nice tall Margarita vs a warm chocolate chip cookie. Which one would you prefer? Well, lets take a look into which one is the lesser of two evils. It's a controversial choice for sure! Both alcohol and sweets can be like a drug and create an addiction that can lead to major health problems. Both can significantly contribute to weight gain. And alcohol is hard on your liver. But many experts claim a glass of wine on occassion is beneficial to one's health. So if you indulge in both, which one is the better choice? STAY AWAY FROM THOSE DESSERTS Among the many reasons to avoid desserts are sweets are more addictive than alcohol. Why? Alcohol has less sugar and calories than dessert. In addition, alcohol contains less fat than a standard dessert. (of course the article is talking about moderate eating and drinking.) Something else to consider is portion control. Many of us can control the amount of alcohol we drink. Unless there is a predisposition, we can stop after that glass of wine. Not so with say a brownie. At least with me one leads to another. THE LIVER'S ROLE IN BREAKING DOWN ALCOHOL AND DESSERT The liver goes through a process of eliminating toxins. First chemicals and toxins are broken down, then alcohol, then fat. So, something like an artificial sweetener (equal) gets broken down, then your wine, and last the dessert, since it contains fat and this is the order in which the liver eliminates waste. MAKING YOU DECISION Of course, after providing you all this information the answer is not an absolute. Actually, a homemade dessert can be healthier than alcohol since one can choose options in its preparation like low-fat/calorie ingredients. WHERE DO YOU STAND? Are you ready to give up that dessert for a nice glass of red wine? Source info- article from Pop Sugar Photo- twitter.com

I am trying to cut down on sugar in my diet. My friend has been researching Alzheimers and the thinking now is that excessive sugar causes the plaques in the brain that lead to Alzheimers.
