Screaming and fainting.

Last night I was watching film clips and videos of live shows featuring the Beatles and Elvis - and once again I marveled at the way fans would scream or even faint at the sight and sound of their favorite artiste - the Rolling Stones, Michael Jackson, Bruce Springsteen and others. I know the screaming continues today, but I am not sure how much fainting goes on now - and I often wonder how one can possibly enjoy a performance with all that incessant screaming - and what really causes them to faint? Did you attend many live pop shows during your teenage and young adult years?- and did you scream or faint? Which artiste of the past or present would make you want to scream and shout during a live performance ? Picture is of singer Mariah Carey.

Back in high school my best friend and I were crazy about David Cassidy. He was performing at a stadium in Long Island and we lived in NYC so we got our moms to let us get tickets. I remember that there was more screaming than listening to him and I also remember that we all sat on fold-up chairs. When things got really crazy we all stood on these chairs shouting and jumping up and down. How we did not kill ourselves or wind up with injuries I will never know. I think even the police there wre in shock. I mean thousands of teenage girls jumping up and down on folding chairs lol

I missed out on that kind of fun during my teenage years - no live shows featuring international artistes in my area. I had to be satisfied with pop magazines.

I love music and I have admired a lot of artistes over the years - but as a teenager or adult I won't be screaming at a concert featuring my favorite artistes - after paying good money to see them perform.

Never attended any live pop shows ever. I guess I could sympathize with those fans remembering the feeling I had whenever I met one of my crushes. The heart just seemed to stop beating... (No, I don't believe in screaming !)

When the heart stops beating temporarily , fainting will occur I suppose.

During my high school days, my friends and I would go to some concerts and yeah most people would really scream til they are out of breathe. It can really be hot when you go to concerts that there people who really faint.

Yes indeed, over excitement and heat could cause the fainting.

@Kandae11 When it is too crowded, my friends and I would find a place that has ventilation so we cant faint and can breathe.

I did not attend any concert where there was fainting. Some screaming after the song is appropriate but not during the song as I am there to hear the singing and not the screaming.

A lot of the hysteria was engineered by having some actors start things rolling but it took a life of its own in the end. I prefer to just watch / listen to the show in peace and ffer applause after each song

Probably because you watched from the comfort of your living room - no crowded venue, noise and close contact with others.

oh, maybe those who are so ecstatic to watch their idols sing are too much excited, that they eventually faint.

Hm, it's a good point. I don't understand the screaming and fainting myself. No matter how awesome someone is - they are still just a person like you, like me. Screaming is annoying, cheering is better. I didn't go to many big name concerts.

@Kandae11 So true. Or singing along with - I go to watch at Karaoke sometimes and this one lady I know will sing along with most the songs. It's like, that's nice and all, but it's someone elses chance to sing now

They didn't go to those concerts to hear the artistes sing - otherwise why drown out the music?

I've attended concerts and yes there was screaming. Not much fainting though. Nowadays, I settle for quiet jazz nights or acoustic sessions. Very relaxed and no screaming at all.

I guess that is what we call start struck. It is becoming less common I think to a certain degree because of social media and shows they are just people like anyone else. The only time I really hear any thing like that now is little girls for boy bands and people like Justin Timberlake

No I didn't attend any but I did watch the fainting and swooning by the teens of the day. It was a different time I think even though there are screaming fans today I don't hear or see too much fainting.
