Bird Day Is May 4th

I have been seeing plenty flying feathered winged creatures around my feeder lately. And also a lot of pleasant chirping and singing sounds in the trees. I bet Pennsylvania Superintendent of Schools, Charles Almanzo Babcock, who established the first bird day holiday in 1894, noticed the same thing too. This was the first holiday in the United States dedicated to the celebration of birds. Babcock founded the day, observed annually on May 4th, to advance bird conservation as something very important. Other Bird Holidays and known dates of celebration: -National Bird Day is celebrated in the United States on January 5 of each year. -International Migratory Bird Day is celebrated on the second Saturday in May -World Bird Day is celebrated on the second Saturday in May. So, for all the bird watchers in the world get those binoculars out and enjoy observing those various bird species. For me, I'll just enjoy them from my deck and look for the many birds who have come back to inhabit my yard again after another winter season. It won't be long before the whole gang of feathered friends are back: Cardinals, Robins, Catbirds, Blue jays, Cowbirds, Chickadees, Nut hatches, Red-winged blackbirds, Yellow finches and of course House sparrows. Have you seen any of these guys and gals in your yard yet? I have a few favorites like the Yellow finches, but I also like the coloring of the Cardinals and Blue jays too. Do you have any favorites? It would be great to see all the birds returning after winter. Because our seasons are so distinct our birds are around all year long. This is a Western Rosella which is one of our more colourful birds.

Not so many colourful birds here but I heard some when I woke up this morning. I love the sound of birds in the morning.

We have birds chirping in the many trees in our neighborhood. When I go out in the yard, I can swear they are talking to me.

I recently wrote about having a pair of robins living in a nest they built on my porch light. I hate blue jays, though (the bird, not the baseball team).

@dgobucks226 — I root for anyone who plays the Y*nk**s. No sign of babies yet, but Robin and Robyn still fly off when I open the door. Hope they get used to me and don’t feel they have to fly away every time I toss something into the recycling bin.

@FourWalls I notice Robins are always on guard popping their heads up with every sound. I have sparrows who chirp at me every time I come near their nest. They took up shop in an old furnace chimney I have which is no longer in use.

Yes, although pretty to look at they can be nasty birds. I remember your Robin post. How are they doing? I always root for the Blue Jays when they play the Yankees

You mentioned some bird types I'm not familiar with. I've been hearing a lot of chirping for a while now. But have only seen the Robin.
