My roommate found this in the back yard.

Snake

So in the wood pile was lurking this "good size" snake. at least a couple feet long. looked different than the Garter snakes.. so I am not sure what it is really.. but then I never claimed to be a snake person.. It showed no fear as he was holding it.. I got some good pictures of it and then we let it go where hopefully the cats wont find it..

Yea, I am not really fond of them either.. but these are not very big.. so not as scary to me.. they are quite harmless.

@infatuatedbby LOL. I find them less offensive than spiders.. but they still startle me when I see them in the yard.. or scarier yet when I am in the woods.. So I usually am more terrified of them in a different situation.

I think most snakes are not dangerous but you never know. And their size certainly has nothing to do whether they are poisonous or not! So take care!

this is true.. but we don't have very many snakes around. And the ones we would find here in the city.. would not be poisonous.

I don't like them much either.. but I have touched one before.. and it was not horribly bad.. but I don't think I would ever pick one up on my own.

I have touched a snake.. but someone else was holding it.. but I would not pick one up on my own. I don't hate them.. not like I hate spiders!

@minx267 I am afraid of snakes, one venomous snake passed on my feet when I was a kid. I have been scared since that time. I do not like or hate spiders, I bring them out of my home when I find one.

when we had cats, one caught a snake in the backyard and chewed its head. i presume that snake is not venomous, am i right?

you are right.. our cats have caught these snakes also.. but this one was the biggest one I have seen. Usually I guess the ones the cats have caught in the past have been babies by comparison.

not all snakes are poisonous.. this is NOT a poisonous snake. just a harmless snake that lives in the garden and catches bugs and maybe small mice.

yes, we don't harm them... my cats... well I can't guarantee it.. but we try to rescue anything we see them grab.

I myself wouldn't go around picking them up.. but these are small and harmless. so I wasn't afraid to be close to it.
