Cockles are in season

I am fond of shell fish and mostly go for crabs. I make what is called Russion Salads as eating crabs that way is far easier than cooking them with their shells.
Cockles are in season.. Here again I will not put the shells in the curry but partially boil them and remove the flesh. We have a dish that has dumplings in them along with the shelled cockles.
When I was in the US I was introduced to Clam Chowder which I fell in love with. I tried to make it here with cockles - I think they are the same as clams - but did not get the same results.

@id_peace Just because the shape of shells is different you say what I have shown are not cockles. They are also known as clams. We have several different type and sizes of cockles.

That is the normal way but I remove the flesh after giving them a boil.

@rebelann Shells are hard as rock. In my method the shells are discarded.

@LadyDuck These indeed are cockles but when I search for clams I get a similar image
We get cockles in different sizes and shapes.

@allknowing The photo below shows the "clams" (vongole) that I serve with spaghetti and they are the same I use to make the clam chowder.

@allknowing Now I post a photo of what we call Cockles, the shell is different, the taste is different. You can eat the clams raw, while you cannot eat the cockles raw, they can easily cause hepatitis.

I am allergic to all kinds of fish and sea food. But those look like what I see called clams here.

Sounds good to me. I love all kinds of shellfish but here in Riga, Latvia if we can find any it is always much too expensive. Hope you enjoy.
