So Much For Trying to Save the Insurance Company a Buck

As I mentioned in a previous discussion, I went to Safelite to get a small chip in my windshield repaired. Well, that didn't go over very well. As it was only a little chip, I was going to pay for it out of pocket and save the problems with the insurance company getting involved. No such luck. The technician said it was a "sealed" crack, meaning the rock hit so hard that it cracked the inside of the glass (or, I'd be writing this from the hospital if the windshield hadn't been there). It's also close to the edge (no, not the Yes album), so that significantly reduces the chances of a successful repair. The good news in all of this is that, due to Kentucky law, my windshield will be replaced at no cost (not even a deductible) because cracked windshields are against the law in Kentucky. Therefore, this is saving me the $82.50 it was going to cost to get it repaired. As for something I mentioned yesterday -- it being counted as a "claim" on my insurance -- when I called my insurance company they explained that glass claims are "different" types of claims, and they don't "count" the way an accident or a speeding ticket does. And best of all, Safelite makes office calls, so they'll be at the office to repair it next week. This isn't on Close to the Edge, but this is the one overplayed Yes song from the FM rock days that I still don't mind hearing:
Yes The Yes Album Released 19 February 1971 Recorded October--November 1970 at Advision Studios in London The Yes Album is the third studio album from the En...

You really lucked out there and saved yourself the cost and the time to take it out to be repaired. I would imagine that the only downfall is that the replacement will be reflected on the carproof, which is only an issue if you ever go to sell the vehicle.

I told them I had to have the same type of glass that's in the windshield now because it's a lease, not a purchase. Okay, so even that has a benefit.

I do remember that we have that as well. No driving with a broken windscreen unless it happen during the time when you are driving and on the way to the repair.

That’s great that it is getting fixed at no cost. My car’s windshield got a ding a couple of months after I got it. I was able to get it filled and so far it hasn’t spread.

Next time when you are driving, take the roundabout instead.
