If you were to ask me if I am a sports fan, I would tell you no. If you were to ask me if I watch sports, I would tell you yes. If you would ask me what sports I watch, I would tell you, Packers NFL Football first, Kentucky Derby horse race next, along with the Preakness, and Belmont Stakes for the Triple Crown, and Indy 500 third.
Today was the Indy 500 that just got over, with Will Power making Australia proud as the winner of the 2018 Indy 500.
I didn't see the whole race, only the last 57 laps, as I took a friend from church out to lunch, and then had to stop for a few groceries. However, what I did see, for me, was exciting. There were a total of 7 crashes, the good news, none serious. It seems they were driving a new car that was not easy to handle as many spun out, and spin they did, making several 360's before coming to a stop. What I found interesting in those spin outs was the other drivers were able to avoid the car for the most part, only one crash involved two cars.
The first time I heard an Indy 500 race, I was in Boot Camp for the Navy, and Mario Andretti was the winner. That was many years ago. I haven't seen them all, but I have seen many of them, and the driver's names are familiar, with new faces every year.
Congratulations to the winner of the Indy 500, Will Power from Australia.
Did you watch the Indy 500? How are you spending this Memorial Day weekend in the US?
Thanks for reading.

I didn't watch it but I did read that Danica Patrick crashed and that it was her last race of her career. I also read that Will Power won.

@just4him Yes, she had planned to end her whole racing career at the end of the 2017 NASCAR Season. She spent some Seasons in NASCAR. Her plan to end it was to do 2 more races in 2018, the February 2018 Daytona 500 with NASCAR and the Memorial Day Weekend Indy Race. Unfortunately, she crashed in both of those last 2 races.

@LeaPea2417 That's a shame she crashed in both races. Not a good way to end a career.

When I turned on the race there were three American's in the top five. When the race ended, no American's were in the top five. His wife went wild when he won. So did he when he finally pulled himself out of the car. He was very excited to win.

@just4him The driver gets most of the kudos but his team put a tremendous number of hours into helping his success. Do you watch the tennis? I don't much but I believe our young Australian champ has been rude and unpleasant again. There are two would-be young Aussie champs but they are both so rude and arrogant I can't wait for them to give the game away.

I didn't watch it. I kinda don't understand the point in people racing cars! The only interest in a race tract is the Christmas light show Bristol's race thing does!
Nevertheless congrats to the winner!
Just planning to cook out and enjoy time with family. Maybe swim :)

The only sport that I am fairly interested in is NFL football and in particular the Redskins..I am passionate about them. Auto racing I saw once in person which was kind of fun..but I would not watch it on TV.
