Today, in the morning, I went to see my GF's graduation for her pre-schoolers. It was very . . . cute(for lack of a better word).
The kids really seemed to enjoy themselves being the center of attention. They got to wear graduation gowns and walk up to the podium to receive their diplomas from the high school principal and shake his hand and a representative's from the school board also.
Some high school kids even snuck in to see the ceremony. A couple of female senior graduating students started to get a little emotional. One even started to hug her gown.
There was even a slide show of the students set to music and photographs taken of them doing various activities throughout the school year. I even over heard a parent say that because of the slide show, she now saw why her child never wanted to leave class!
I had a bit of a "moment" during the slide show because of one of the songs that played. The song was "Somewhere Over the Rainbow/What a Wonderful World" by Israel "Iz" Kamakawiwo'Ole. Before his version, Louis Armstrongs version of "What a Wonderful World" played.
When Iz's version played, the childrens headshots were shown, to me I didnt know if I was still at the graduation or a wake! It's an emotionaly powerful song to me. Even though its lyrics are positive, it always leaves me feeling slightly somber.
Anyways! The kids were all into it. They enjoyed the ceremony. I'm sure they'll also enjoy the pizza party waiting for them back at the classroom!

@andriaperry - lol, maybe she was trying to start a college fund.
this is a thing only kids can get away with, do it as an adult and its entertaining in a different way.

@Plethos And I am guessing she is excited and nervous? And she wanted to share the day with you too.

How times have changed. When I went to grade school in Balboa Panama, there was no graduation for preschool graduation ceremonies.

Wow! That sounds really great, Plethos!
I'm happy you got to attend your graduation, after all... I know you were worried you'd have to work instead of going.
It sounds like you didn't make it to the pizza party, though. I'm sure all your classmates were thinking about you while they enjoyed the pizza!

@Plethos Now, just because that's what you would have been thinking if one of them were not at the party doesn't mean they would think that way, too...
So,
with your new diploma, that must have really open up new job opportunities, right? Have you considered what you want to be
when you grow up?
Just so you are aware, if you tell me you've decided you want to be something really cool, I'm gonna be
jealous!

This sounds like a very well planned graduation, for these little children. These seniors will miss their good memories and best friends, after graduation day.

@kobesbuddy - oh no, it was just pre school. i think the banner is for later for the seniors who want to attend the religous(?) ceremony in their honor.

Oh that's nice! I'm sure that your gf appreciates you being involved.
I totally understand you. "Somewhere over the rainbow" makes me emotional too. I don't know why. The lyrics aren't sad.
