There is a difference between songs I loathe and musical abominations. Songs I loathe are those I dislike greatly but understand their popularity. Musical abominations are tragedies that should never have been. Milli Vanilli is the greatest embarrassment in Grammy Awards history and that is saying a lot. They were created in 1988 by producer Frank Fabian and the German duo of Fab Morvan and Rob Pilatus spoke very poor English. Their debut album “Girl You Know it’s True” was a smash yielding #1 gold singles in “Baby, Don’t Forget My Number,” “Blame it on the Rain” and “Girl I’m Gonna Miss You.” Milli Vanilli was awarded the Grammy for Best New Artist. Lip syncing in concert is controversial but not unheard of. Milli Vanilli was caught faking it in concert when the recording started skipping. Then came the stunning revelation that Fab and Rob had done none of the singing to begin with. Charles Shaw, John Davis and Brad Howell were revealed as the real singers. The ensuing scandal prompted their Grammy being stripped. Rob Pilatus died at 32 in 1998.

I remember the Milli Vanilla scandal. I heard that Fab Morvan and Rob Pilatus were chosen because they more attractive than the real singers and they thought that good looking singers would attract the young girls.

I like the song, the dancing and the great lip-syncing!
