When do you usually have your dinner?

Hello, everyone! Most of the Russians stick to the certain time for meals that is rather different from many countries. We have breakfast in the morning (sandwiches, cheesecakes or cereal). Those who work in offices or have other governmental jobs usually have one hour for dinner (from 1 pm to 2 pm). When we are at home, at weekends or during vacations, the Russians have dinner at 3 or 4 p.m. Normally, we do not have lunch. In most of the cases, we have three courses for dinner: soup, meat+garnish+some salad, and dessert. We prefer light supper after 6 p.m. Many females skip it because we are always told that eating after 6 p.m. leads to extra weight. For supper, we eat dairy products, fruits or pancakes. Of course, there may be exceptions, but most of the Russian families prefer this common timetable. When I heard that some foreigners have dinner in evening, I was shocked What about you? When do people have meals in your area? What dishes do you usually eat?

Well, many Indians are vegetarians. You also eat chapatti, not "thick" bread for dinner That is why you can stay in a good shape

We have dinner at home at 7:00PM and a bit later when we dine out. When I was in Europe, most restaurants served at 9 or 10!!!

breakfast would be 7-7.30 am, lunch 12-1pm, dinner 7-7-30pm. there could be mid-morning snacks at 10am or afternoon snacks at 3-4pm. is that russian meal schedule regardless of the season?

@DianneN some families eat earlier especially if they have elementary school kids. like, it could be 6am and 6pm. i'd say most people here eat 4 times a day - breakfast, lunch, afternoon snack and dinner. the mid-morning snack tends to be those who eat a quick light breakfast because they have to leave the house very early.

@hereandthere Exactly! When our kids were young and living at home, we ate dinner around 6PM. I usually don't snack, but that would be good times for a pick me up.

If eating after 6 pm would lead to extra weight all Italians, Spanish and Greek would be fat, we have supper after 8 p.m. in those countries, but we avoid to eat dairy products fruits and pancakes in the evening, because for sure those things make you fat if eaten late.

@MashaVickina More the "fat" foods and those you mentioned are all full of fats or sugars (fruits). I am the same weight than the day I married (47 years ago). I have never been fat, neither is my husband, we always eat at 8 PM and go to sleep by 10 PM.

That's good if you like her food! 3, but in evening, it is very light, like fruits... We have a substantial meal only once a day, between 1 and 5 p.m.

a newer version of 'the food pyramid'
I like to have dinner before 5-or-6 o' clock (on account of my Acid Reflux or Sleep Apnea ... if my stomach makes too much acid while I'm sleeping, my throat can't handle it & it suffocates me) ... though I do have a banana right before bed (Nurse Katie's orders!) For dinner (or late-lunch) I have a McDonald's Quarter-Pounder or pizza or Hot Pockets or MexiWraps or Taquitos or Chicken Pot Pie, sometimes with a hot-dog or sausage or chicken-wings, sometimes also with spinach or sweet-peas or carrots or french-fries, with either Sprite or water to drink.

We typically have our dinner at about 5PM that way the food can digest good before we go to bed. Tonight we will be having Chicken Parmesan, last night pork steak and a salad.

It must be a normative dish meaning, no torturing of animals is involved. Mostly I like to eat some kind of hot food, it can be Soup with some beans, or a normative burger with good chips and dips
