We are oh, so close, and yet, at this pace, so far away here at Play it Again, Sam Headquarters. As always, Play it Again, Sam is a two part discussion consisting of an original song followed by a cover of that song. We are at #6a, the "original:" "Cinnamon Girl" by Neil Young. Essentially, Rock and Roll Hall of Famer (and MyLot Music Hall of Famer!) Neil Young is not one to keep inspiration at bay. He penned his classic, "Cinnamon Girl," while suffering from a nasty, fever-ridden case of the flu. From his 1969 album, Everybody Knows This is Nowhere (his first with his legendary backing band, Crazy Horse,) the hard-rocking "Cinnamon Girl" was released as a single in 1970, reaching #25 in Young's native Canada, and #55 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song was a staple on Album Oriented Rock FM Radio for decades, but I've actually been listening to a couple different Classic Rock stations lately, both in Colorado Springs and Denver, and I'm sad to say that I just haven't heard it. Come on, guys! Maybe you could squeeze this classic in once in awhile? All you have to do is maybe cut the airing of "Bohemian Rhapsody" and "Hotel California" down to maybe four times a day each.
