What Do You Do When You 15 Year Old Dog Passes Away?

What do you do when your 15 year old dog passes away. Well, if you are me, you go out and adopt a 13 year old dog. I would like you all to meet my two new loves Fred and his little buddy Bella. It turns out Fred is Leelee's son. Less than a month after Leelee pasted away, I ended up rescuing two dogs this time. Fred is the basset dachshund and Bella is a mini dachshund. I have a thing for older dogs. After the heartbreak of losing Leelee, you would not think I would get an older dog. But, it just so happened that these two cuties came into my life. A week after I got Fred he ended up saving my life. A huge dog came running down the road ready to attack me and Fred held him off until his owner came and got him. The big guy holding my two doggies is my son Mark.

Aww they are precious! You are such a good person for rescuing Fred. Not many people will take the old puppies.

Well good for you that you have the heart for adopting old dogs. I rarely see those kinds of people who chose old dogs than the puppies. I for one love to adopt puppy because I like him to grow with me. Rearing young pups also can still train him. Also loyalty develops more when you adopt young.

@whiteream Yes I agree with you and admire you for taking those older dogs. I agree that they also need the tlc that they deserve.

I do agree with you on those points. But, for me older dogs are easier. They are already trained in some cases. I did have to house break two of my older dogs and it did take time. There is just something special to me about older dogs. Like they need me so maybe that is why I do it.

I would mourn the loss of the dog that you lost. However the spirit of that dog that passed away remains in my memory since I have pictures of the deceased dog and it makes me feel great that I treated my dogs with kindness and love.

@Deepizzaguy These two guys keep me too busy to cry so much over Leelee. I still cry for her sometimes. They made the pain of her lose easier to get through for my whole family.

@whiteream Time will heal the wounds. I cried for a few days after my German Shepherd Thunder II passed away several years ago. However when I adopted a female dog mutt, she has made me happy.

@whiteream That's how the world is interesting indeed - imagine, a carbon copy of someone several continents away :) That office mate of mine always got the attention of almost everyone because of his looks - handsome, just like your son.

i've cared for dogs ever since a child. I love dogs and have really been attached with them. I lost a part of life when i lost my pet peggy (a pug) and it was the toughest time of my life. I took care of it etc, but yes she passed away and the trauma of caring for her and then losing her in the end broke my heart to pieces. I am still not over it and I am still unable to get another pet until now.

@whiteream true, we cope with loss in different ways, i guess i have never really tried too. Maybe soon If i know i can take care of it well I would get another pet... but... still it is a decision still has to be made.

The loss of a pet is just like the loss of a family member. It takes every person different time periods to deal with the pain of that loss. I still cry over Leelee. But, I do have lots of photos of her and a few videos.

I am open to adopting dogs. I had moved on when I lost Chancho golden retriever. Now, I had a puppy and named him Coco. I love your doggies.

@LadyDuck I feel the same way you do. Honestly, it was way too soon. But, these two guys needed us. If we would not have taken them, they would have gone to a shelter. Fred is not in the greatest of health and Bella is over five. The odds of them being adopted were not good.
