Can we go on a cruise without a valid US passport?

Hubby is finally taking time off work and wants to go on a Caribbean cruise. I told him we can't go on one because all cruises stop at ports of call that are not US territories and we don't have valid passports. He still insists on going on a cruise, saying we just won't leave the ship when we embark in a port of call that requires a US passport. I don't want to do that. If I travel to destinations I want to be able to go out of the ship and see the sights or visit beaches, etc. But I am also thinking that we won't be allowed to get on the ship initially, or even book a cruise, without a passport because the ports of call are not US territories. Am I wrong?

Nope. What if you had a medical emergency and needed to be taken offshore for care? Just get new passports. It isn’t hard.

If he wants to go on a cruise in first week of August we have no time to renew the passports.

@lovebuglena You can go to the Passport Office in NYC in person and get them done. You have to make an appointment though.

I think you are right. Besides, you won't enjoy your cruise if you just stay on the ship the whole time. What would be exciting and fun would be to disembark at the ports and explore.

That's what I think as well. No point in going if you can't leave the ship. And we might not even be able to board the ship at all if we don't have one.

Perhaps you shall consult the cruise company at first. In fact it is not difficult to get a passport. Why not get one and you shall not worry about it at all?

Not enough time to get one if he wants to go on a cruise first week of August.

It is highly advisable that you get passports.

I know. That's why I don't want to go on a cruise until we get one. I told him we should postpone this trip for another time and just take a road trip somewhere.
