Inspired to Clean

I just watched a youtube video about a hoarder house. It was awful. It inspired me to start cleaning and pitching stuff so my house never gets like that house.
In between posts, I am cleaning out boxes and drawers and shelves and just throwing a lot of stuff away or putting it in donation boxes for the thrift store.
What do you do to inspire yourself to go on a cleaning binge?

I have seen some of those videos about hoarders. They also inspire me to clean and get rid of some things. I am not a hoarder, but my husband doesn't like to throw things away. He keeps saying that he might need them one day.

@akalinus I understand what you mean. My husband also loves yard sales. One time we visited a yard sale in another part of the country. He didn't buy anything, but when we got home he insisted on driving back, because he really wanted to buy something he saw. He has so many things, but he still wants more.

@Porcospino I used to be like that. I would take anything and everything. People gave me tons of stuff that they did not need. I did not need it either but it took a while to learn that. Now, I don't bring in anything unless I know I need it, groceries for instance.

I lived with that for a long time. My husband was always bringing stuff in from yard sales. When my son moved in, he felt he had to fill the house with more stuff. Just before the last hurricane struck, we had to put everything from the yard into the dumpster because we had no place to put it inside and the shed was full. Now, I can't even remember what that stuff was.

@akalinus Ohhhh, well not "that" tiny . . . but I know what you mean about those real tiny houses. I've seen photos on them online . . . that's pretty spiffy what they can do with such dinky space. But we don't have that. I should have said small house. We all seem to be pack rats here, so it does feel like we're busting out of our space!

I would like to minimize a lot. My son moved out but he has tons of stuff still here. He won't tell me what to do with it so some of it is disappearing. He quit a job, so I throwing his yucky, stained work clothes out. I am only keeping the best and newest to put away for him.

@thislittlepennyearns I only toss the worst stuff. I have asked him to tell me what to do about the stuff and he won't answer.

About a year ago I had a cleaning binge of my clothes. The reason was because the rod in my closet broke. I gave away alot of clothes that didn't fit me anymore. I haven't gave away anything recently.

If there was any thought that there was mice or cockroach (or whatever) living in my things... THEN I would tidy them like mad!
