Buying ammo sure is easy in California

I'm heading up to Montana in a couple of days, and will have the opportunity to shoot my little .22 rifle up there. I don't hunt, or plink squirrels, or anything like that, but I like to shoot empty beer cans off of fence posts. Yesterday I cruised into Big Five Sports, bought some shorts, tried on some hiking boots, and eventually bought a box of 100 .22 shells. The sales person never asked me for my driver's license or checked any ID. I haven't bought ammo in years, but in the current environment, I'm surprised that he did not at least ask me for my driver's license. I would not have minded if he had. Are you surprised?

I think the word I would use is shocked but then again, California is a very liberal state and I guess it extends to purchasing ammo as well.

I wonder if it does vary state by state.

Some places just need to see a drivers license. I don't know what the heck that is for but everyone does things differently.

This is what people this side of the pond think, in your country is too much easy. No, I am not at all surprised, there are no laws, so people do what they want.

I do look like a "safe" person. But I doubt they're allowed to treat people differently based on how friendly, etc., they appear.

It is different state by state. In NJ it is much more difficult to obtain ammo. In PA where my husband works, not so much.
