Recently, while filling in time in Adelaide, South Australia, we came across the Port Noarlunga Reef Aquatic Reserve which is slightly south-west of the centre business district. This is a marine protected area which extends seaward for about 1.75 kms (1.09 miles). It is classified as an IUCN Category VI protected area. Within the Gulf St Vincent part of the reserve is the Port Noarlunga Reef which is connected to the shore by a jetty.
While we were there, a lot of people were fishing from the jetty. A large chart held a prominent position and showed the legal size specifications for each type of fish. I know nothing about fishing so I found the chart quite fascinating. The other thing I did like was a sign on the beach. It isn’t the best photo but I did like the artwork.

Is the jetty that connects the reef to the mainland a man-made jetty? Did the creation of that jetty not cause any ecological damage to the reef?
I love the artwork in your photo!

@JudyEv Back in the 50s and 60s, the government came up with the brilliant idea of digging a big canal across the northern part of Florida, to create a shortcut shipping channel between the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic Ocean (think Panama Canal, but in Florida). They got about halfway through when environmentalists sued and won in federal court. The project came to a grinding halt and was abandoned. The environmentalists and the court system agreed that the ecological damage could have been significant. But I was thinking, since the project was already halfway through, wasn't most of the ecological damage already done at that point? lol

@moffittjc Ah but they all like to think they did the right thing. It's like some of the animal activists that know nothing about domestic livestock and their behaviour and problems. Certainly animal welfare is important but people need to know their subject and their facts before shooting their mouths off too much. But that's just me.

These Australians I say always go off the beaten path with their art.
Have spent time at the Great Barrier Reef. We even had a submarine experience.
