They Were Suddenly So Accommodating !

Since the survivorship pension’s requirements of my mother aren’t fully complied by us since May, the savings accounts of my parents are nearly depleted.
Three of the bank managers where our parents have their savings accounts, went to our house to see our mother and had her thumb marked after we have submitted their needed requirements after our father died. We were able to withdraw some amount.
However, one bank manager didn’t even go to the car where our mother is when they went to the bank after her medical check-up in the city.
Instead, he again asked for another requirement which he would add every time we have passed another requirement to their bank.
Out of my anger for such treatment to us in at least letting us withdraw some amount for our mother’s medication, I called our family friend who is the brother of the wife of the mall mogul who also owns this reigning bank.
I told him our predicament and he told the nephew who is in charge of their banks.
The next week, on Monday, the branch manager went to our house together with our townmate who is their auditor.
They brought the whole amount of my mother’s savings and just left ten thousand they say at the savings account as a guaranty that all of us 5 sisters will sign in their presence for the quitclaim once we will close the account.
The manager was so accommodating and kind already, even when we went to the bank to sign the quitclaim after some few days.
We were told that the manager was made to go to Manila before he went to the house.
But we never told him, who amongst the sister pulled a string so we can be treated nicely. We even didn't close the account and deposited the excess money.
I told my sisters, in this materialistic world, it is not what you know but who you know in order to be given a nice attention.
Have you ever resorted to pulling a string in order to be helped?

It's very common ni this country of ours.
So far, all the banks I am involved in are good to me. Banks have this preferred clients and the not so preferred ones. They even have special lanes for the preferred ones. I usually don't go on queue. But they should extend help to those who need it actually.

Banks have their own ways of treating their special clients indeed. We just have to be subtle though, so other people will not feel it.
Though, we extend immediate help to those who need it, as I have experienced in my more than 15 years of being a bank employee/officer.

It is indeed unfortunate that sometimes people need to have connections in order to be accomodated. On the other hand, personnel from the bank, especially the approving officer, are just being careful because there are many instances when other heirs of the deceased depositor file cases against the bank for releasing the deceased 's money without any court order or extrajudicial settlement.

There are instances though when bank managers allow withdrawal or even closure of the deposit account as long as the husband/wife of the deceased depositor and all his/her children come personally to the bank and sign the withdrawal slip. More often they would prefer closure of the account and opening of a new account in the name of the living spouse or a joint account account with any or all of the siblings as they wish.

@hereandthere The other heirs I'm referring to are one or several sons/daughters of the deceased.

In America that happens all the time. Not from me, but was amazed when went to Laughlin. Could go look I am rich and spoiled. They were not rich, but richer than me and stilled made me go
I am glad you found some satisfaction at least I think. I always say if you did it right from the start, would not have that problem. Only thing doing it wrong taught me is you have to do it over again.

Indeed, you are right there- we have to look "rich" in other to be treated nicely.
Well, had they given us a list of all the requirements from the start, not ask for another, every time we have passed a requirement, it should haven't reached that point where we have to pull some strings.
The manager appeared not to know what to do until he requested the auditor from Manila to be assigned at his branch.

@SIMPLYD I hope it was just because he was new and not because did not care. That kind of sucks even if you hate your job. I always tried to take pride in it just for the simple fact to show a better way. It never works where it improves things, but maybe people treat each other better if even for a day when they see someone take the time if you know what I mean.

@crossbones27 Yes, he appeared new as a manager, so that explains. However, he can always ask his boss what are the things to do, since it's his first time to encounter such a case.

@JudyEv That is so true. Doing that would mean losing your clients.
We were thinking of not banking with them anymore actually , once we are done with the withdrawal of money, because of the bad treatment to my sisters.
However, because they were already accommodating, we still opened a new account after the old account was closed.

Indeed, we were already tired and angry of having to comply this and that more whenever my sisters would go to the bank to comply what they previously asked us.
Had they have a listing of all that is needed, everything will be done smoothly and and won't take months like this.

i have not yet done that. i applied as a staff nurse in 1981 with my former dean of the college of nursing as my reference person. when i also applied in the academe, i used the administrator of the secondary hospital as my reference person.
my son too, did not have any reference letter but the former dean of the college of arts and sciences in USL, and that was a requirement for application. good thing though because the acting VP is a colleague- she handled students in community set-up. she was the one who told me to let my son apply for Philosophy instructor for senior high school.

@ridingbet Then that's good that you and your son didn't pull any string to be able to get into your works.

@SIMPLYD i don't think so. our dean already left the college of nursing in March 1981 when i gave my letter of application on August 1981. she went to Antipolo. the administrator of the hospital is not known by the VP of the school because it was the father that the VP and the president knew. they were not aware that Dr. ABL was the administrator of the hospital.
i had nothing to do with my son's interview and anything. he does not like even, when i ask him about how his application went. only when he said, "Ma, we are now coworkers" did i know he was already accepted as a faculty for senior HS.

I understand your predicament, but maybe that bank employee is so careful enough not to commit any mistake because it is he who would be liable if any problem arise regarding your Mom's account. He only moved when he know that the bank owner made the go-signal to release the money.

@SIMPLYD I agree, the manager is not well-informed on what to do in such a case. He should know it!

If I need some strings pulled, I'd ask my parents. My mom has always had a knack for getting whatever she wants without even blinking. She is neither rich nor famous so I've got no clue how she does it. She is kind of a bee itch so maybe they're really scared of her. Idk

In the real life, there are always some people who tend to make things difficult for customers. It was a good job you have a contact in another bank.

@hereandthere Yes, that's because he also was a retainer a private bank , Philtranco and taught on universities, when he was just an attorney not yet a judge.

My mom had done that so many times and even when my Dad was abroad she pulled some stringers to get his pension..Sadly, with out connections how can we even get it done.

Indeed, when one has no connections, the process will be very , very long. I don't like it that it's this way here in the Philippines.

Thank you. I also think so.
Though, we didn't even mention it to the manager because we believe in reverse psychology.
We instead still opened a new account using most of the closed account money.
While in the car, us 4 sisters who went to the bank to sign (our other sister already signed when they went to the house), were laughing. That's because I told them that the moment we went out of the bank, the manager and his auditor will be talking as to who amongst us could have pulled the string, to the owner of the bank.

It is sad that this was the case, but good that you were able to get someone to give you nice treatment about the savings of your parents.
I am sorry you had to go through that.
Yes that I can recall one time I had to be extra nice to someone that I knew could help me and we then were able to get the place to live.

I was a former bank employee for 15 years. All i know, is to accord every depositor a nice treatment, big or small depositors alike.
Had we not have a "big" someone to help us, we will go to Central Bank to complain the bad attitude of that manager.
