Bad health news from my best friend.

Dixie´s husband Humberto has a painful herpes zoster in his back. He is taking expensive anti inflammatory drugs plus antiviral drugs similar to Aciclovir. But the worst is that Prem, their grandson, has rheumatic fever. This could be very dangerous. His mother, in Ecuador, tells him not to take any medicine and says that she will heal him sending him good vibes. When Dixie told me this, I could only say bad words under my breath. There are times when good vibes are not enough. I remember that my grandson, then around 20 years old, told me to stop chemotherapy and start meditation when I was diagnosed with a lymphoma. I think meditation and other things help a lot, but do NOT work instead of chemo or strong antibiotics in some cases. Prem had rheumatic fever before, when he lived with his mother. She did not take him to a doctor in due time. Thanks be given that now his father has the tuition. Andrés will go to live in Australia, where Ruthie, his second wife, was born. I hope all is for the best. Today Prem is going to the doctor. Pray for him please.

I had herpes zoster on my ribs three years ago, it is painful and I had pain for many weeks. You are right meditation and good vibes "may" help, but are not enough.

I am absolutely sure that I would not be alive if I had not had chemotherapy years ago. I do choose doctors I like when I am treated. But after that, I follow their indications.

@LadyDuck It is the wise thing to do. The doctors don´t know all, but they know best.

@marguicha Sometimes there is nothing we can do, we have to follow doctors indications.

I think what Americans would call herpes zoster is "shingles".

Yes. The name "herpes" is the medical name.

@marguicha I know. I just figured I’d put that for those who wouldn’t know what it was but who would understand shingles.

In many Indian languages Prem means love... I hope Prem get well soon....yes, for such emergency, it is foolish to refuse professional help

I think that the parents knew what Prem meant and that´s why the baby was named Prem. And as for the health problem, I´m glad they are here. And Prem understands he must see a doctor.
