Blessing Strangers

When I have been cleaning lately, I thought about how giving things away or to thrift stores can give value to others. Then, I thought of how I can add something extra. For instance, if giving away a purse, leave a penny or a dollar in it for the receiver. When giving a book, put a bookmark in it. A scarf, necklace, or belt completes a dress or fancy blouse. Can you think of other ways to bless strangers as you weed out stuff?

While it sounds a great idea, separate items might be removed when items are checked over before being displayed.

@JudyEv Ours had a porch-like area outside the front. We displayed things for sale that were too big for the inside. We also had racks of clothes for a dollar a bag and a lot of 10 cent items.

That is true. But sometimes they are left together. I volunteered in the donation department of a thrift store for a couple of years and we even arranged things together at times.

@akalinus Our thrift shops here have some really attractive windows at times.

Never thought of that. It's a very good thought I'll do that the next time. Thank you so much for sharing.

I was not even thinking about it but just started typing this up and was amazed at what I had to say.

@BabeSays That way, you can get rid of more than one thing at a time.

@akalinus With great meaning. I think everyone should put this in practise.

Oh, I like this idea and surprisingly enough, we did it just last night. We are just waiting for the person who is coming for the item.

I have found that when you give things away, more come to you.

Items are checked here before they donate to those in need. Everything I should add, would be taken away.

@akalinus I know that they check to avoid to sent things to laundry and "wash" the money with the clothing.

@LadyDuck Our shop only washed special things. I, on the other hand, launder money no matter how carefully I check.

Yeah, that is a problem. When I worked at the thrift store, we had to check for money which was given to the shop. I sometimes put stuff in the free area of the laundromat. Anyone can donate stuff and take stuff according to need. It is on the honor system.

Those are wonderful ideas. When I gave a new wallet or purse to a child, I would put a little money in it.

I am sure that the child really likes that. Stickers are another idea for a young child.
