The Beat Goes On

Oh, yes today it was like the song about drums pounding in ones head and the rhythm never-ending and the beat really did go on. My favorite version is by Sonny and Cher and I was hearing this song in my head today. Settling in I have multiple problems. As you know when I moved back to the U.S and came to Florida I would have been crazy to ship along all that old furniture I had. So I saved a great deal by just packing the personal belongs and things like photo albums which should arrive in September. However, I had forgotten that when you are standing in say the kitchen and you have one hot plate to make your food and one plastic dish to eat from you are not going to create much of a new life. Same as when you sleep on a mattress on the floor and your furniture consists of what you sit by at your desktop PC and laptop. So I made a list of the essentials for now and ordered a simple bed, small table and chairs and some other things. Happily, I gave Amazon my Visa debit card number. Happily, Amazon informed me that my bank Wells Fargo does not want me to start a new life and no go. Next up the problem that I have no mobile phone at the moment and have a number set up for me that I can use through my laptop. So this morning found me shouting in my laptop at the customer service guy at the bank. I explained the situation to him and asked why in the world could I not purchase these items. The man says because this counts as an unusual transaction on your account. Unusual? I just got my card and activated it and there were no transactions yet. Nothing to compare usual or unusual just what the bank takes in their heads. So he fixed things for me before I fixed his wagon and it was time to move on. Next up my call to Amazon where the lady says to me if I can recall because my connection is bad. I told her that I could do no better since I was shouting into a laptop. We managed to understand one another and finally, my purchases are on their way. After going through all this I added on more essentials just to fix their wagon and soon will have a lovely countertop toaster oven big enough for a roast. That of course required some other kitchen essential but I figured I should be good to myself. Then it was time to consider some small amount replenishing of funds and decided to add my card to PayPal where I have saved up some money. PayPal was taken aback that I have made such a big move and needed to confirm my Visa account. They said in my statement there would be a code I had to use. They were in my statement and not once but twice and there were two codes none of which they said were correct. So tomorrow I have to call their customer service department and THE BEAT GOES ON!!! How was your day? You know how mine was.

oh my goodness that is another reason i hate to move because these days so much red tape is required just to survive when in earlier times it was basically just the physical moving itself and change your address. now it takes days on end to change a lot of internet stuff that don't seem to want to cooperate

@bunnybon7 best thing is that PayPal told me I had to now open a US account with them. However, I still have to figure out how to get my money from my Latvian account to the US one.

@porwest it is and now PayPal has the gall to say online that if I cannot get their stupid codes right they will not accept my car.d. Yelling fest coming up.

I have 'closed' my oven--will be writing about it--do all my cooking in a microwave, a Foreman's grill and a crockpot--total for all 3 items less than $100. About 5-6 years ago I got rid of 'things' and got down to basics--I don't 'entertain' anymore so I only need, the most, 2 of silverware, plates, coffee mugs---and if you have a Dollar Tree store next to you, you can have a ball buying a lot of necessities without hurting your pocketbook from shower curtains and liners to any kitchen items you can think of along with hundreds of other items. Regarding "And The Beat Goes On"---love those 'old' songs!

@GreatMartin, unfortunately, it will be a while before I can get to Dollar General. The transportation here is one bus an hour and I still have not figured it all out but once I do I know things will get better

This totally s u x . Big time! I once purchased a 50 dollar gift card and did so by debiting my bank card for it at a local Walmart store. The bank declined it as suspcious. I know the feeling. I had to go to the bank and explain that I used the 50 dollar gift card to actually save 10% of my gas at the pump when I fill up my tank. They said they were sorry but they were meraly being cautious on my behalf. yea. I know it. But it was a thing that made me really feel like my entire day had been wasted going back to re-purchase all the stuff I wanted at the local Walmart. Sorry you had to deal with this kind of garbage. Tommorrow is a Monday so I hope it goes better for you . Yes, the beat does go on. A pusling beat from a headache.

Well got some good news finally the first packages from Amazon arrive tomorrow at 8 PM just don't know why so late but heck as long as they arrive @lookatdesktop meanwhile since I do not know if this will happen I will be making a homemade bomb Gotta get them one way or another. Oh, yes you're going to love this. PayPal said they could not approve my Visa debit because I have a Latvia account. So they said to make a US account and I did. Now I have to change my Paypal email on all the sites that I write for that pay and I still have to figure out how to get the money in my Latvia account to my US account. Good one, right?? The beat is still pulsating.

@RasmaSandra , Can you access your bank account in Latvia? Dumb question I imagine, but still, I do really think you will find a way to make this work. Good luck and I will say a prayer that things work well for you ASAP.

I like that beat. Its tough moving house - even if the new residence is one block away. So imagine another city, or another country. Yes, a toaster oven will be very handy.

Since that was a couple of days ago, I hope that all finally got sorted out and you are having a better day. Here, we had another scorcher and I did lots of sweating.

Do you have a car? If you need stuff, check out Craig's List to see what people are giving away.

I don't have a car and I do not want one because of the expense. When I lived in NYC all those years ago my mom and I purchased a car and it traveled with me to Latvia because I could only drive an automatic. It lasted many years and was sold for scrap. Now I just rely on my two feet and hopefully someday will figure out this bus system @JohnRoberts I will also look on Craig LIst but cannot travel to pick up.
