Day 38 Mark 12:41-44 Mark 12:41 And Jesus sat over against the treasury, and beheld how the people cast money into the treasury: and many that were rich cast in much. 42 And there came a certain poor widow, and she threw in two mites, which make a farthing. 43 And he called unto him his disciples, and said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That this poor widow hath cast more in, than all they which have cast into the treasury: 44 For all they did cast in of their abundance; but she of her want did cast in all that she had, even all her living. There is much said about how much people give in the offering plate at church. Some people believe giving anything other than a token amount is sufficient, while others believe giving what God requires is foolishness. Jesus watched how people gave to the treasury, which was giving to God. He observed how the wealthy gave a token, while the poor woman gave everything she had. Which of the two went away satisfied? It might seem like foolishness to give everything you have to God. However, faith is required to do so. As Christians, it is a struggle to give when the cupboard is bare, and you don’t know where your next meal is coming from, or how the bills are going to be paid. I’ve been there. When I considered what was in my hand wasn’t enough to buy groceries, or pay a bill, I did do what that widow woman did, against common sense. When I did, God met my need. Psalm 37:25 I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread. (KJV) It takes a leap of faith to take what’s in your hand and give it to God. The widow woman took that leap of faith. Which of the two went away satisfied? The widow woman, because she had faith God would meet her need, while the wealthy knew they had enough not to worry about their needs and desires. They didn’t need faith to insure they would have enough. Philippians 4:19 But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus. (KJV) When you trust God with your finances, you don’t need to worry about what you put in the offering plate. Let’s pray: Father, give me the faith of the widow woman to trust you will always meet my need. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen. I remember this story. I was one of my devotions. I shared how the Lord responded to my prayer before our One Campaign. I shared it here:
One week before July 2nd, my network leader explained the One Campaign. As we grow, we need a new place to accommodate the growing members. They prayed for us...
