a day of rejoicing

The high schooler went back to school last week, and the middle schooler and grade schoolers started back today. I still had the toddler boy today, as his preschool doesn't start for a few more weeks, but this morning was the quietest that it's been in months. Of course it would have been better if I didn't have a migraine and the toddler boy didn't fight me on wearing clothes today, but I'll take what I can get. (Sorry, @NJChicaa! I know it's not a day you look forward to at all.)

I forget, are you teaching or taking a class?

@spiderdust I teach psychology at Diablo Valley College. That's the one job I've had the longest. The stuff with "troubled" (and more recently supposedly non-troubled) kids has involved several different organizations.

@TheHorse I used to know people at Diablo Valley, but it's been about a decade. I'm sure they've moved on to other things by now.

I'm happy for you. I will be sad for myself in about 2 weeks.

@spiderdust It is crazy to expect a teacher to keep moving from one grade level to another. You can never master the curriculum or your lessons. I can do mine on auto-pilot after so many years.

@NJChicaa I know while we've been there, she's done 4th grade, then a 3rd/4th classroom, then 1st grade, then a 1st/2nd grade classroom, and finally gets to repeat 1st/2nd again.

I will be sad for you too. I hope this year turns out better for you than it's starting out. I found out that my youngest stepson's teacher hasn't taught the same grade level for the past 12 years -- until this year. She's had to change her curriculum every school year and has had no continuity. Apparently this year during their teachers' meeting, she said that she couldn't keep changing everything every year and that someone else needed to step up. I'm kinda glad she did, because it's why a spot opened up at the school for the stepson (they created another 2nd grade class).

Back to school sounds like a magic word in your home.

@spiderdust The more the kids, the more the word sounds "magic".

It never was quite so magic before this year.

Yay for kids being back in school and homes being less noisy! Hope that migraine has left you.

Hopefully the migraine has passed by now.
