Glad to See Old People

Yesterday, we attended the wake of my sister-in-law's grandmother. She died at the age of 95. While there, I noticed that the departed siblings are also old ladies, one is 86, the other, 79. I asked their secret for staying healthy in spite of the age, and one said she is always active in doing so many things inside and outside the home. At 79, she said she still cuts grasses and bushes at their coffee and cacao orchard; a very hard work that should be done by strong men or women. She also sells vegetables and other produce at the market, waking up at dawn. She also walks a lot. I admire and envy them for not having arthritis or any leg pain. They look healthy and do not have any maintenance medicines. Do you also admire such old people?

Must it be in their genes?

@sol_cee This is surely also genetic, all the women by the side of my mom's family lived until their late 90's. Most of them still active, some not.

I think so because the siblings reach such an age and they are still strong.

My mother worked hard all her life and lived to 104. I think keeping active is part of the secret of having a long and healthy life.

Wow that's great! So you have her genes, I guess.

@cacay1 Your life won't be stress-free if your employers don't pay you.

@JudyEv maybe he has a different gene make up or was it his lifestyle?

Those works they have to do is what makes them healthy actually. Imagine, walking a lot. Walking, is what the doctor tells old people to do as an exercise.

My grandmother attended to her garden until she was 98, my mom lived alone and did everything in the house until she had a stroke at the age of 97. I agree that staying active keep you healthy.

@cacay1 I do not want to live that long. I would be glad to reach the 80's.

@cacay1 There is an age limit for teachers in Europe. I think that the students need younger people, 80 years old is a too old age to teach.

So glad to know about it; they all live so long and still active in spite of the age.

That is so wonderful to hear. I'm a believer that lifestyle and exercise play an important role in longevity.
