I found my keys; now I think I'll buy a wireless keyfinder

I've been rejoicing that my wife found my car keys in our yard after I lost them while mowing the lawn. Several commenters on my last post had suggestions for making finding them easier if this should ever happen again. For example, both @iridion9 and @akalinus suggested (tongue in cheek) using a magnet. Well, I'm not sure a magnet would work. But that did get me thinking. Is there technology available to make finding lost keys easy? Turns out there is. I went on Amazon and found several models. One is a wireless RF key finder with a transmitter and four receivers so you can put them on four different items. When you press the button on the transmitter for the lost key, the receiver attached to that key ring beeps and flashes a light. And all this for $16.99. According to the reviews it really works. So, I might just get one so I'll never have to worry about losing my keys again. Photo credit: yourbestdigs.com via flickr (CC BY 2.0)

That sounds a great idea as long as you have a general idea of where you lost the item.

That's the key, so to speak. You have to be fairly close to it for this device to be effective.

I saw that one, but it seems a lot more expensive.

This seems like a good idea. I might look into it myself.

Hmm, I might consider that if I only list mine places I could see or hear it beeping. How far away can you be to allow it to connect with your keys? I put a hook up near the closet near the front door in the files that the are hanging there more often than not, but that's not always the case.
