Pumpkin soup, etc

So it’s 4.30 in the morning and we just can’t get back to sleep – sounds like the first line of a song doesn’t it? It’s now 5,30am actually but we’ve been up an hour. I have a load of washing on and one in the dryer, there are two big pots and a small saucepan of pumpkin soup on the stove, Vince is processing photos and now I have a chance to chat with you all.
Later we will shop and cook two dishes ready for dinner on Wednesday night, the night of our house-concert. There will be ten of us for dinner and 12 for breakfast next morning so it’s important we don’t forget anything. I’ve already made the chocolate slice for supper and done some of the house-cleaning.
Tomorrow (our 47th wedding anniversary)Vince is taking 5 quarts of pumpkin soup to his golf club then staying on to help serve it to the ‘veteran golfers’ who are coming from all over the state for a social game. His brother and his wife (his brother’s wife, not Vince’s wife) will arrive with their caravan in the afternoon. Our caravan and bus are both ready to receive guests on Wednesday and another couple will park their motor-home out the back too.
So it’s all go here but I’m hoping I’ll still have time to pop in and out.

Wow, busy, busy..I do nothing in comparison! I wouldn't be able to keep it all straight without getting terribly stressed anyway.

Who said it's straight and who said they aren't terribly stressed?
I do as much as I possibly can well ahead of time because there is always some little extra thing that pops up and could throw you out of whack. In this case, it's the guests arriving the day before rather than on the day. They're great people and will do anything to help but we have a routine and it tends to get thrown out or just take longer if others are involved. But it will all be fine I'm sure.

Pumpkin soup is just about my favourite. I might have to siphon off a bowl or two.

@judyev Your opening could prompt one to break into one of two songs.
1. "Its 4 in the morning, and what's more , the dawning has woke up the wanting in me" - trite nonsense by Faron Young
2. It's 4 in the morning, the end of December, I'm writing you now just to see if your better; New York is cold but I like where I'm living, there's music on Clinton Street all through the evening …" - deep gravel and melancholy by Leonard Cohen.
Enjoy your soup.

I knew there was a song that started something like my post and it's the first song you mentioned. I don't think I know the second one. Doesn't every man and his dog have a go at 'Alleluia'? I think it is the melody that gets them rather than the lyrics.

Congratulations on your 47th wedding anniversary! Sadly, that is unheard of in today's societies. But I'm glad you and Vince made it. Hope you have many, many more wonderful anniversaries!
As much as I love pumpkin, I don't think I have ever had pumpkin soup!

@JudyEv My parents made it to their 50th wedding anniversary. Sadly, it was their last, as my father passed away several months later.

@moffittjc I'm sorry you lost your father. 50 years is a good innings for a marriage. My folks got to 63 years. Mum married at 27 and Dad at 23.

Wishing you a happy 47th anniversary and wish many more years of togetherness and bliss to both of you,
I love pumpkin but have never tried a soup with it. You seem to be looking forward to a good busy day.
