I was in school teaching. Our library had a big screen TV, and word of mouth passed quickly to all the teachers and staff. I had a Paraprofesstional who watched my students as I watched the horror. We took turns.
Saturday night I saw a play at my alma mater. It was called, “The Guys” starring Dan Lauria, class of ‘70 and Wendie Malick. It was about a firehouse that had lost many of its guys during 9-11. They generously performed at no charge to benefit the students.
I haven’t been here due to our Jewish holidays, but will return.

I was at school when it happened. I found out from my bus driver, after school. I got home and my parents said they wanted to talk. I knew what it was about. I'm sure it wasn't easy for my dad, as he lived in New York City when he was in grad school.

We stayed in New York at that time. My husband's office was a little distance away from the twin towers. I came to India for a week to see my family. My husband witnessed the entire thing from his window. We panicked to see it in TV. I tried calling him but he could not be reached. I got a call later from him that he was safe. But he was so shocked. I could feel him shivering and crying on phone.
It was so shocking. I could not get over it for a long.

@arunima25 It was an awful thing to witness and worse when you saw it with your own eyes. I guess 9/11 will never be forgotten by any of us.

Oh, my! I truly understand. Our son began his job the day before in NYC. He saw the entire thing from his window, too. We couldn't reach him and were frantic thinking all the important buildings in NY were going down. He had to walk all the way home to his apartment and was covered with ash. It was a horrible time.

I was newlywed back then. Just a month old then we’re about to go with my uncle to the province and spend our vacation with my family back then. We delayed our trip because of that and since we do have relatives in ny we tried calling them to be sure they were not near the site. Thankfully no one was! Although I had a cousin who was supposed to go there that day but was stopped because it happened already.

@DianneN Yes it was really horrifying day we watch the whole time it was happening. The world did change big time after 9-11 happened. Almost all airlines and airports got their security hyped up to the level that at times were ridiculous already. And I think up to this day it is still practice like removing of shoes, no more joke bombs when on plane or mention of the word bomb, etc.

That must have been so frightening for you and your family in NY. After that day, it took me months to feel comfortable enough to travel again. I still worry the way our world is. My son started work the day before in NYC and saw the whole thing.

@wolfgirl569 It was beyond scary. We couldn't contact him. He was in training at the Citi Corp building and had to walk all the way back to the Eastside covered in ashes. He saw the entire thing. I was frantic thinking all the big buildings in NYC would get hit, too.

@DianneN - Oh, my. 9-11. Such a scary day. Our oldest daughter had recently married. She and her husband were living in New Jersey, but she worked in Manhattan. She normally took the train to the World Trade Center, had breakfast with friends, and then took a bus to her office in Carnegie Tower where she worked as an Entertainment Financial Manager. Her company had recently moved their offices from the World Trade Center to Carnegie Tower.
That day, she dropped her husband at his office in New Jersey, which had a view of Manhattan. Then, she remembered she had left some important papers at home, so she decided to take a later train. She ran home to get the papers and, from their home, she saw smoke rising in Manhattan. They both watched what happened from the New Jersey side of the river. However, it was hours before they could call anyone in the family to let us know that she was OK, so we were worried that she was in Manhattan while the Towers were coming down. It was terrifying when we could not get through to her.
Many blessings on your Jewish holidays.

@DianneN - It was a terrible day and I know that many people will never forget the trauma of what they saw and what they experienced. I'm glad your son and his future wife both survived. Life changed instantly for many people that day.

I know your fear and worry. Our son had just begun his law career the day before. He was taking a training session on the use of IBM computers at the City Corps building and saw it all happen. We couldn't get through to him on the phones, but he managed to contact my husband. Everyone in the building was allowed to leave. Since the subways were shut down, he walked to the Eastside to his studio apartment covered in ash.
His future wife, whom he hadn't met yet, stopped at the World Trade Center around 8:15 to borrow a pair of sneakers from a friend, since her feet hurt. Her friend didn't survive.
We will never forget the fear, shock, and horror of it all.
Thank you so much!

I was in England, I was interviewed in Stratford on Avon by the BBC, what a shock it was to be away from home at a time like that.

@DianneN They really wanted me to say that the Terrorists were Islamic extremists and condemn them but I was very calm and refused to form an opinion until we knew more, I think they didn't like my interview style lol They went around looking for Americans and they heard my accent. We actually had another week in England so by the time we were scheduled to fly home, planes were flying again. We were concerned however and we could not get calls through to the states for days. However, we had flown out of Boston and I thought the security there was very lax and had commented on it.

@BelleStarr You were very wise and I'm glad you kept it low-key . Yes, I remember that planes didn't fly for 3 days. It was a frantic and terrifying time. Our son started work the day before 9/11 and saw it all. It took him hours to call to say he was ok.

I was waiting in the parking lot for my kids to come out of school. A teacher came out and said I had to go in and get the kids. I asked why since I was asleep when it happened And did not know what had happened. I told her I had to take the three kids from next door to. Their mother had no car to get them.
Than I left with two more kids beside mine plus the neighbors because their mother was at work. Lucky I had a station wagon.

I was working in a assisted living facility as a medication tech when scenes of the attack came across the big screen television in the TV room next to the dining room at breakfast where I was assisting with morning meds as residents came up to the cart or those who had trouble remembering taking their meds to the table. Many at watching after breakfast the events unfold on that big screen and we had a hard time getting one resident tolieted and back to the table for lunch. A retired Navy Captain from WW2 with Alzheimer's who kept saying over and over "We"re at war"

@DianneN He was already in the Navy at the time of Pearl Harbor finishing training to fly off and onto Air Craft Carriers and was sent shortly afterward to replaced the ones who were lost in the Pearl Harbor attack. We had a hard time with him that day to toilet him and get him back in the dining area for lunch (though he could still see and hear the TV from his table) a he was glue to the events unfolding on TV and he wa in a wheelchair.

Shana Tova, Hanni! I know how excited you are to have your succa. I remember you telling us about it last year. Have a great week. I wouldn't be surprised if something happened in Israel on 9/11. I heard the airports are the best in the world.

I was at home when it happened. My neighbor called me to tell me the first tower had been hit. I turned on the news and woke my husband up, who just happened to be off that day from work. We sat in our PJs nearly all day watching the TV. I did finally get dressed to pick my son up from school. He was in 5th grade at the time. My younger son was in Kindergarten but had not gone to school that day due to being sick. My husband and I sat there really in shock as the awful events continued to happen.

I was in a meeting when someone burst in to tell us. We just thought it would have been a small plane so when we came out of the meeting and saw the carnage it ripped our hearts out! The horror was unthinkable it is a sight that will stay with me till the end of my days. It made me cry big time especially watching the documentary later by the two French guys who had been there for a year to film a fire in a high rise they were just about to wrap up and go back to France. It was horrific. RIP to all those poor innocent souls and to those still suffering the after effects.

@DianneN I bet you were. We were frantically trying to get hold of my parents when a ship went down near zeebrugge. It was four hours before I could get a clear phone line and similarly to the bombings in London. The mobile phone signals are switched off and only available for emergency services. I hope we never ever have to go through that sort of thing again.

Many people don't watch TV during the morning, especially since they are busy or at work. I tried to call my husband, because I was so fearful all the major buildings in NYC would be next. Our son had started work the day before and was in training with the IBM computer at the City Corp building, but I couldn't get through to him. I wanted to warn him to get home to his apartment. My husband was reluctant to take my call, because he was in the middle of running a faculty meeting. When I got to him, he told me that our son called him, was let out of work, and had to walk all the way home - no subways were running. Our son saw everything from his window.

@just4him It certainly was a shocker for him and everyone else who witnessed it. His future wife, whom he hadn't met, yet, went to one of the towers around 8:15 or so to borrow her friend's sneakers. Her feet hurt. She left shortly before the first plane struck. Her friend didn't make it.
